i don't understand y so many people hate aly she is so pretty for me and i don't hate her for me she is the best of all the girls in landon 2012

Anonymous Coward 9 months ago

aly won because she is the best and i hope she keeps wining and been the championship for the of her life .

Anonymous Coward 9 months ago

Hahaha I doubt colors you are wearing has anything to do with it. Did you see the colors Linlin was wearing on beam final? It was like a rainbow. :)

finally 9 months ago

Aly won because she was the one who wore the American Colors. What is up with that anyway? Hot pink, pink, silver, all white, um, hello?

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

So I dont think Gabby is upst about not medaling. She is great at bars, but i'm sure she knew she needed a miracle even before finals started. Her medal will be at a better chance come beam

Danielle 10 months ago

Yes, Andrea, you are alone in that. Your rule would be absolutely silly. Not to mention - there is already a consequence for falling; you lose execution points.

Russia counted at least 2 falls during team finals... so you're saying that because they had to count a fall (or 2), they shouldn't have gotten a medal? What if someone from every team fell, do they just not award medals at all? Or does this arbitrary rule only count during individual finals? So Mustafina wouldn't have gotten bronze?

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

Haha. I'm with you Emma. Surely this doesn't apply to Musty.... McKayla is the best vaulter in the world. One slip up does not make you any less than everyone knows you are.

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

How many times has Mustafina fallen off beam here in London?

Emma 10 months ago

@Andrea... does this ridiculous rule also apply to Musty??? Or just Maroney?

Andrea 10 months ago

Am I alone in feeling that the scoring system should not allow someone who falls down to be in the top 3? I wish there could be some major changes in the code of points so that falls would keep people out of the medals.

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

i'm sorry even with a fall, 14.3... and she only stepped out with one foot not 2

ck 10 months ago

I mean the scores were fair because all of the gymnasts were overscored equally.

ck 10 months ago

I think that the judges overscored vault and bars (for every gymnast) in the all around final. On vault, Komova's 15.466 was high considering the steps she took off the mat. However, Gabby took 2 steps and went out of bounds on the vault, and she still scored about the same as in team finals where she only took a small hop. Gabby's all around bars were also pretty much identical to team finals and qualifications, and she scored .4 more. Same for Aly- on the vault she took a .3 step and with her form should not have received a 15.9. So, the scores were fair.
On a separate note, I'm so happy for Mustafina. After that fall off the beam I did not think it was possible for her to medal.

I don't understand why there can't be a tie, it makes no sense. If both gymnasts scored the same, they should both be awarded. Would like to have seen Aliya and Aly win bronze, they both deserve it.

Bela's_moustache 10 months ago

@Anonymous Coward. Everyone's scores went up. I thought Aliya did a better bar routine in the team final, but she got a much higher score for her bar routine in the AA. Whatever the case, for the first time in a long time, I think we have an all-around champion who does not have a weak event. When Gabby led after bars, I knew it was just a matter of her keeping her nerve and she would be the winner.

I have to agree it was definitely a mistake for Aly to leave the punch front out of her first pass. I understand taking it out for the team final, but I think she should have went for it today.

I also think the tie breaking method is dumb. First of all, why not just let the gymnasts tie and avoid all the heartbreak? Second of all, Aly outscored Mustafina on three events today and qualified with a higher score... it seems unfair.
That said, I am THRILLED to see Mustafina walk away with a medal, I think I enjoy her gymnastics more than anybody else's in the field. I just wish it had been accomplished without the need for weird tie breaker rules.

Rock!!! 10 months ago

Why in the world would they leave out that element in Aly's first pass. That could have done it for her.!!!! She would have beat Mustafina for sure!!!!

ARE YOU LITERALLY KIDDING? VIKTORIA OVERSCORED?! HOW THE ACTUAL HELL DID GABBY GET 4 MORE TENTHS ON BARS AND 3 MORE ON BEAM TONIGHT?! THIS IS SO UNFAIR

Komova is sooo overscored it's really me off. Hopefully Gabby and Aly can beat her out fairly.

anonymous 10 months ago

anyone else think that komova's routines have been so overscored??? First her beam routine in team finals, and now her amanar in the all-around

How does everyone feel about the lineup for tomorrow?
My greatest reservation with what i see is the heavy pressure put on gabby to compete all around back to back to back when you factor in individual all around finals. The olympic qualifying process is stressful enough that when you finally get to the games you're bound to be fatigued; not to mention the fact that you have no ease up time. Although if you go back to yester-year in the sport this was how everyone competed if you made it to the finals. In this day and age, however, 3 up and 3 count puts added strain on individual performance so i truly worry about how crisp gabby can be by AA-Final although i truly hope she only improves as the meet moves forward.

This meet has the makings of being truly great for the top 2 qualifiers going into tomorrows team final

OMG. Komova looks amazing...they slicked back those skanky bangs and now she is sleek and chic! :)

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

Jordyn not only won't make AA, but she probably won't make any individual events either. I can't see her bars score holding up & then if it does she's tied with Kyla so I don't know which way that would fall. I feel horrible for her. I hope the US goes out & kicks some ass in TF. Wow.

dw 10 months ago

what a meet! Aly and Gabby have been improving for a while now and it seems that Jordyn had looked the same since Worlds last year. All 3 scores were so close, 2 per country rule ruins it. Gabby and Jordyn both had small mistakes, so Aly earned her spot by hitting when it counts.

Anonymous Coward 10 months ago

This is unbelievable to me. I just watched the Internet broadcast, which showed only Aly's floor routine. She must have had one heck of a meet to keep Jordyn from qualifying. And I'm no judge but I thought she was underscored on beam and floor. Good for Aly though.
