Angelpq02, thanks for your message on Gymnastike's adult gymnastics page, asking about whether there's any hope for you to learn gymnastics as an adult. The answer is absolutely yes! Adult gymnastics classes throughout the country offer opportunities for adults of all levels, including first-timers. Competitions with adult divisions generally offer all skill levels, including beginner, as well. You can look for classes near you on our interactive map and spreadsheet on the adult page. Feel free to contact me at marina@gymnastike.org if you have any questions. Happy flipping!
Oh boy! Unlike most of the people here I have NEVER done any type of gymnastics before. Is there any hope for me to learn with other people as inexperienced as I am. I want to do this I'm just scared I'm not good enough I can't even do splits.
Thanks, Nicole! We will add the class in NH.
There is another adult class that is available in NH. It is at NHAAG in north hampton on fridays from 930-11 (the first half hour is conditioning and is required). Cost is 50a month, or 12.50a class and can be payed as you come!
Hi Vanessa, thanks for asking about adult gymnastics classes. All the gyms listed on this page (above, in the list and map of adult classes) accept adults. I hope the list helps you find a class near you. Feel free to contact me marina@gymnastike.org if you have additional questions about adult classes.
Does anyone know of any gymnastics training centers that would accept adults? All the ones that I have researched online & called say that they only go up to age 18.
Does anyone know?
Katy, thank you for providing the info about Excalibur's adult class. I have added it to the list.
Michal, thank you for your very good question. Many, if not most, adult classes cater to all levels, including beginners. 18 is definitely not too late to start - hope you find a great class and have fun! Please feel free to post videos of your progress on the adult page (upload your video and then click edit, and mark the "category" and "coverage" as "adult gymnastics" to ensure that it shows up on the page).
Hi, do these places offer beginning gymnastics? I'm an 18 year old male interested about gymnastics. Right now i'm in martial arts, I would like to expand my skill range. Is it too late for me to start learning, or do you offer beginner classes at my age range?
Excalibur Gymnastics in Virginia Beach, VA has an adult class 7-8:30pm every Wednesday. $22/week or $81/month. Coed, Ages 16+
Thank you Marina. I will definitely look into those classes and post my progress. Thanks once again.
Hi Nikki, thanks for your post. It's never too late to get back into gymnastics! Gyms all over the US offer classes for adult gymnasts of all levels. You can click on the links to the class list on this page to find a gym near you! Good luck and feel free to post videos of your progress on the adult page as well.
I am a 23 year old mother of 5. Gymnstics used to be my biggest passion and i love it still. However have been unable to practice for years. How can i get back into this amazing sport???? and am i too old now???
Theresa, AAU has winter nationals coming up in Geneva, Ohio in February. I'm awaiting some clarification of the women's rules and plan to post this when I get it, but here's a flyer with more info: http://application.aausports.org/clubapp/Flyers/339F54F7-7E9F-43A0-BF84-D8F17DF9E3A5_flyer.PDF. Hope you can do it.
Tiffany, you can start gymnastics as an adult by finding a class near you. Click on the links on the adult page (or click here for the direct link: http://bit.ly/adultgymnastics) for a list of classes throughout the country.
I'm 19 years old and obsessed with gymnastics but have not done it in forever how do I join!!!!
I just started doing Gymnastics about 8 months ago at 26 years old and would like to find a adult competition. Are there any coming up, not listed? I am still a beginner, but my passion has placed me in the gym 5 days a week and 4hrs a day! My goal is to do at least 1 competition before I hit 1 year in the gym!
Thanks, it's now on the list!
Sure, Adult classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-9. There's a $30 annual registration fee, then just $10 per class :)
Thanks, Katelyn. Great to have another addition to the list! Can you please send me the time, days(s), and cost of the class, and I'll add it? Feel free to post it here or reply to me at marina@gymnastike.org. Thanks!
Hey, I'd just like to add the gym i go to, to the list. It's Olympika Gymnastics Club in NJ. I would send the link but everytime i try to send with the link it says that it thinks my comment might be spam
Hi Amanda, thanks so much for your comment. So glad you like the adult page and hopefully now you can find ways to continue competing. Not sure what state you're in, but at least in Maryland, 42-year-old Tina Wise competes as a Level 9 in USA Gymnastics meets (check out her videos and interviews here on Gymnastike). Also, AAU's annual Age Group Games (weekend of July 22, 2012) and Junior Olympics (late July-early August, 2012) offer ladies' divisions for gymnasts of all levels, including level 9. Info about those meets is above. And, various gyms offer adult meets as well. We'll post them on this page as we hear of them, so keep checking back for more. Feel free to post your videos/photos etc. here, and/or email me directly at marina@gymnastike.org.
I almost fell over when I found this page. I'm a 25-year-old level 9, and I had been competing YMCA meets until they decided to set an age limit. Maybe through this site I can find some other meets that I'm not too old for and don't require a USAG membership. It also makes me not feel "too old to keep doing it," like some people think. THANK YOU!!!
Praise you if can do this (once)
Hi gymnasticaman, thanks so much. Sorry you've been having trouble finding current info on meets. There's an adult meet at Whistler in Canada next weekend, June 9, and two AAU meets this summer (info in the meet schedule above). I try to keep this page as updated as possible with meet info, so please feel free to keep checking back for more, and let us know if you hear of anything as well. Thanks!
Great site. Always interested in adult meets for guys. I did 2005 Senior Olympics at LAVC, but can't get timely info recently. Interested in meets on US/Canada west coast, so please post if you know about them.
Hi Anonymous, thanks for asking. I'm not sure about changing times, but feel free to contact the gyms and ask them. From what I've seen, gym schedules/space issues, coupled with family and/or work obligations that may prevent many adults from being able to get to the gym earlier, may contribute to the later start times. During the summer, some gyms switch to earlier schedules, which may be helpful to you, too.
Is there any hope of an earlier gymnastics class in northern va? There are a few gyms that don't offer them... Any way to attempt to change this (ex fairfax gym, gymini) or try to have capital hold the class earlier? Finishing at 10:30 can really affect the next day
Hi,
Could you also compile a list of adult gymnastics classes in Canada?
Hi Kristin, thanks for asking. Yes, a group from Capital in Burke, VA is planning to go to AAU Nationals in Wisconsin in June. Please feel free to email me at marina@gymnastike.org for details.
Hi Mary, the class at Capital is Mon, Tues, and Thurs 9-10:30. Hope to see you there! If you're wondering about other classes, check out the list on this page directly above the comments, and in the link at the top.
