Sam Mikulak posted the highest all around score on night 1 of Olympic Trials, 91.80, just ahead of Danell Leyva and John Orozco. He made a strong big for the Olympic team. However, Mikulak will not be competing in all six events today due to a sprained left ankle suffered from a short landing on his tsukahara triple twist vault on the first day of competition.
In accordance with the selection procedures, scores from any events in which he competes today will count and for any events that he does not compete, his scores from June 28 and the Visa Championships will be averaged to use as a score for June 30. He is not eligible to automatically qualify to the team, but is still in contention for the team.
