USA Gymnastics names 2012 USA Women's OLYMPIC TEAM

I wished I could be them. My personal favorite is Gabby Douglas!

omg did u watch them compete i did it was a really great performance with all the flips jumps or leaps and the amazing hand coordanantion yea usa u deserved to win that gold medal but wait for the next olympics nz will be there and when that happens we will come first and get the gold while u come second and get the silver

Great Job! I knew you could do it! Yall all amaze me especially Jordan Wieber and Nastia Liukin! I love gymnastics and my dream is to be in the Olympic Trials! Nastia I know you didn't make it but I love you! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND NEVER GIVE UP! Thanks for being a good role model!

Also the world gymnastics committee decided to limit the Olympic teams to 5 athletes only for the Olympics.

I could see McKayla or Kyla going to U of Utah. Utahs team is great and it just seems like a perfect fit for those two. McKayla sure could challenge Kupets for her records.

@ annoymous me, I'm not saying that our USA team isn't good but, there lacking artristy and I have been watching these young women for sometime and I haven't seen it yet. But, maybe they'll come prepared for the olympics i'm rooting for them...

Well we know that PREJUDICE stills exist in some shap form or fashion, look at Price and what she did a few months ago, that's 4th in world comp. now she's an alternate

Jackie- I think they did away with 1st,2nd, & 3rd alternates. Now they can sub in any of the three that best fits, if necessary.

Amazing team! But I would have put in Alicia instead of Sarah. Sarah is great though.

With Gabby and Jordyn (not to mention the other amazing gymnasts) on this team, Team USA will be astounding!!

All of these girls have worked extremely hard for most of their lives to achieve what they have achieved this past weekend. Regardless of opinions, the selection committee put together a team they believed would work best together based on scores from past competitions, who would be the best three on each event, how they handle the pressure and the same goes for the alternates. Every single one of those girls chosen to represent the USA at the Olympics EARNED their spot; no one was given or robbed of anything. As to the scores, every country judges their gymnast less critically or they have rules that allow them to bonus that would not be acceptable at an international competition. Judges are also human and they make mistakes; if you have never judged a gymnastics event you could not possibly understand how difficult their job is. If there is a blatant error in the scoring coaches are allowed to petition; if the coaches aren't in uproar over the scores, you shouldn't be either. The coaches see their kids do gymnastics 6 days a week and if they have no objections, then the judges did their job as well as they could. If you are an educated fan of the sport you would not be trash talking the selection committee or the athletes for the decisions they made and they way the athletes competed or the judges for the scores they gave. While I have personally not really been a fan of Nastia or Bross I truly respect their efforts for what they did this weekend. ASac was fantastic, especially only 8/9 months out of an injury, but the US is deep in both vault and beam which are her events and Price fits better as an alternate because of her solid routines on vault and floor. Li has the one of the highest start values in the world for bars and the US is weak on that event, if one of the three they choose to compete bars goes down at the Olympics she will be the alternate picked to compete because she has proven with stuck routines that she can nail a bar routine for a 15+ score that will benefit the team greatly and the same goes for Sarah on beam, if she can keep her nerves in check she has one of the highest start values for that event and her floor is also good enough to put up for a good score if she is able to clean up her landings. For some girls they were simply not prepared enough to contend with the top 5 athletes that were named to the team. Vega was lovely as always but her difficulty was not near enough to keep her in contention, Dowell broke her hand not long ago and while her floor routine is difficult that event would be her best attribute and that was just not enough to contend for a spot., Baker is a first year senior with potential but it was too soon for her. Gabby and Jordyn both had mistakes, but Gabby had less and she deserved to win. Aly was a rock as usually and that is extremely important to have a reliable athlete. Maroney and Ross both proved that they can be used on at least 2 events (M- Vault and Floor/R-Bars and Beam, and she could step in on vault or floor as well even though her difficulty on floor isn't that high and her Amanar isn't consistent but she has a lovely double that would score well if she can stick). Every athlete has their strengths and their weakness, no matter what sport they participate in, and who are we to judge their respectable efforts to compete in one of the hardest sports in the world. No one can take away what they have achieved and no one should be putting down the selection committee for the choices they have made. Martha has proven that she has been a good national team coordinator and that shows by the results that the US has been able to achieve since she has been in that position. So stop trash talking and start cheering for the girls that achieved their dreams.

Have you folks completely forgotten about 2008? I love A Sac too and I am extremely impressed with her comeback from a major injury. However she completely choked at the Olympics in 2008. She screwed up floor twice and had the fall on beam in Team Finals. Did you really think Marta was going to give her another chance at the Games? I never did. Remember McCool in 2004? She choked in Prelims and that was it for her Olympics. She might as well have not even been there after that because you never saw her again. Looks like to me you only get one chance at the Olympics if don't perform well.
