2012 US Olympian McKayla Maroney is in the August 2012 issue of Glamour magazine.

Maroney is the 2011 World Champion on vault, and with an upgraded second vault, she is the clear favorite for the 2012 Olympic vault title.

she is pretty. Just because a girl is pretty doesnt mean that every ptcture she is in is sexual

I think the difference between this pic and Alicia's is that McKayla is a minor and Alicia is an adult. BIG difference. Little girls do not need crotch shots in non competitive attire.

This is not as bad as Alicia Sacromone's shot on beam naked for the ESPN body shots in 2011..that choice of pose was not appropriate for even the naked body shot..way over sexualized and I didn't appreciate the message it sent for young gymnastic athletes...there are already too many creepy photos out there of creepy people taking photos at meets..

I presume by the picture that she has gone Pro like Aly, Jordan and Gabby. Does anyone know for sure? I am totally against all these 15/16 year olds going pro - I think they will regret not doing College Gym - but oh well.

This image might not look sexual to other teenage girls, but believe me it is to your average heterosexual male. I just consulted my boyfriend to find out! People do not have dirty minds, they have sexual minds. I also think it's unfortunate (and very deliberate) that they pictured her in this pose. She's 16!

i just thought it was one of the uneven bars.
the only weird thing i thought it that "she's not even known for bars!"
i don't think it's sexualised or inappropriate at all. there's nothing lolita about it, she's a gymnasts swinging on the bars.
melanie, stripper poles tend to be vertical, not horizontal... so it clearly isn't a stripper pole.

Maybe it's a ballet bar. I don't like the photo but I suppose it's no worse than many of the poses gymnasts are photographed doing out on the floor with their butts jutting out, not to mention all that hip shaking, etc, etc.

I disagreed I wasn't thinking that this picture was inappropriate or sexual. It comes to show that people have dirty minds. . .

I agree with @SJ, this picture is inappropriate and sexualized. Is she hanging off a stripper pole?! That and the pose itself make me uncomfortable. MaKayla is very talented and I hope that she'll get attention for that alone. I'm also surprised that no parent intervened before this was published.

Personally, I find this picture slightly disturbing. The opening quote from Martha begins "this little girl", (obviously she is not a little girl, she is 16, but she is certainly not an adult yet) while right above that is a photo of her that is overtly sexual. She is 16 years old and the 'Lolita' style of the photo is uncomfortable. Talk about the sexualization of young girls, geez.
