Hopefully when she is at UCLA she can train at AOGC with Arthur Akopyan. Her UB needs work. She lacks amplitude and speed. Also Arthur is quiet and focuses on his athlete whereas John Geddart focuses on Jordan as well as his twitter, his blog, and thinking what excuse he has to have if Jordan does not live up to her expectations. Jordan is class but her coach is an excuse thrasher. |

Jordan does not qualify for all around. He then says the 2 country rule is an injustice. Why didnt he say this the year before at the world championships when Gabby was the 3rd best American and was not eligible for all around. Jordan does great at the team finals and does well on the 3 events. John Geddart says she fought hard and did great. Jordan places 7th in the event final. Her warmup was great though. John Geddart then says she competed with a stress fracture and if this wasnt the olympics should would not have competed. THis guy talks and whines so much. He should take a lesson from Liang Chow. He doesnt talk much but on the day the Gabby needed to be the best he was able to motivate her. This is what John couldnt do at the biggest stage in gymnastics. Then in one of his tweets he includes. Chow is my superhero. Silence is golden. You talk too much John |

That is a bunch of BULL! They're making excuses for Jordyn's poor performance at the Olympics because her endorsement hyped her up so much for the public and she didn't delivered what was expected. If she had that problem sense camp why not mention it before- like on media day when they mention McKayla's toe fracture. It's all PHONY BOLOGNA to me! |

first of all John wasn't making any excuses people....i've had a stress facture and coached kids with stress fractures and it stinks....you do have to cut numbers and that hurts consistency.... he never made excuses, neither did Jordyn or Kim Zmeskal for that matter....it's just sad....to not be 100% isn't a fair comparison. And he was a great leader of our team....very helpful and motivating for all of the athletes! |

john geddart should stop talking and make excuses. The bottom line Jordan did not perform to her expectations and her 2 teammates did better. Had Jordan performed like she did in team finals during the individual floor final, she would have medaled. Its obvious that John Geddart is jealous and bitter of Chows success and Brestyan's success with their athletes. John please accept the fact that Jordan did not live up while Gabby lived up in the all around while Aly lived up in the balance beam and floor exercise final. Those postions should have been Jordan's but it did not happen. Sport is sport. Accept it John. Jordan performed well with a stress fracture in the team finals too bad she could not match this in the individual floor final |

My problem with John is, He only seems to be the head coach for Jordyn. Why didn't he blame McKayla's vault fall on her big toe? Did he even make a comment about it? Most of his comments have been geared toward Jordyn, with an occasional back-handed compliment to others aka "Congrats to so and so, but..." I agree. He wasn't really a head coach; He was Jordyn's coach and Head is just a fancy title that meant absolutely nothing for the team as a whole. |

They are all amazing - the olympic gymnasts. The olympians! All of them! Scot Parsons, Caroline Queen, Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, the swimmers, the weightlifters, and on and on and on. They all *made it* to the Olympics. I hope that at some point Jordyn will be able to recognize what she did and find a deep deep sense of pride in being a big part of winning a team gold medal. I hope she'll be able to carry that sense of pride with her in all that she does after gymnastics (whenever that is). I hope ALL the Olympians and those who went to trials and didn't make it to the Olympics take a deep sense of pride in what they accomplished - gold, silver, bronze, not winning any medals, trying out but not making the team. It's huge and very few people get to say they even tried out for the Olympics, much less make it and then go on to win a gold. YEAH Jordyn! Yeah ALL Olympians and wanna-bes. |

what a bunch of complainers...everyone who is ing about geddert is absolutely ed..nuff said. Jordin just had a poor showing during the Olympics. That's the nature of the sport. Some days your on, some days your off. Geddert worked just as hard has Jordin to get her to the level she did. They both worked years and years for it. So yes if Geddert is giddy and proud of himself, then yes people he's allowed to be. You would be happy too if you just sent your first student to the olympics. |

Funny how this is said after she doesn't do as well. I'm not saying she isn't hurt, but if it;s true she should have pulled out. They can talk about Gabby and her family negatively and it's ok!! Gabby won the AA and she also help the team win gold. It has been way to much hype on Jordyn and what she has done. All the girls have dreams and wishes!! I'm happy for all the girls!! Leave Gabby alone!! |

I agree AmandaPD. Think about how much of a whoopdy doo the fans and media made out of McKayla's toe. Maybe John wanted to keep the focus off of Jordyn and on the team by not making a big deal about an injury. The media would have had a an even bigger heyday if they had gotten wind of an injury to Jordyn. None of us know if it's true or not so while we wait for x-rays and an MRI let's give them the benefit of the doubt. |

I don't think he's making excuses at all. If this announcement had been made before she began competing in London, everyone would've have said she didn't perform well because she was "taking it easy" on her leg. It was very smart of him to hold out the information, because THEN he would've definitely been accused of making excuses for why Jordyn didn't do as well as she normally has. I honestly believe that Jordyn didn't do as well as usual because she's burnt out. Flat out tired and worn out. It's really awful for all of you to call him a bad coach. He's obviously not that awful if he produced a World Champion and Olympian. Shame on you for being so judgmental of someone you don't even know. |

I am a little skeptical that this is all coming out now. There was NEVER any mention of anything being tight or bothering her--now or a month and a half ago. Nothing has been taped. Just odd. I feel he is losing sight of the 'losing gracefully' that he preached so much initially. Don't make excuses--it only takes AWAY from everything. |

Why all the nastiness directed at John. The only reason he is being criticized is because he is open. I appreciate opyn-ended honesty and transparence. He is doing his job as coach. During these INDIVIDUAL events he is here representing his athlete. |

Excuses, excuses, from her bad coach. Weiber came into London as a heavy FAVORITE to win multiple hardware, she came out with just one (which is still good considering it's a team gold). Weiber got all the attention before the Olympics. Now all the attention (and endorsements/money) will go to Aly and Gabby (and Moroney too), since they have multiple medals. Kyla with one medal is okay because she's basically a rookie and the youngest of the team, but did her part in the Team Gold. |

I don't think John made one excuse for Jordyn. Jordyn won a gold medal - that is impressive! She may be disappointed and upset that she didn't make finals, and that is okay for her to feel that way and for her coach to defend her! Sportsmanship is a must, however, why does the media hype up the fact that these girls all need to be best friends? They don't have those expecations in men's swimming. Phelps and Lochete talk alot of trash back and forth to one another. It's healthy competition! In the end, gymnastics is an individual sport and they are competitors! After spending their lives in the gym, they are allowed to cry, or tell the media that yes, maybe they are disappointed that they didn't have the outcome that they wanted. |

Really really curious if John is making excuses, or if this is legit. Being that the excuse is a stress fracture, it won't actually have to need surgery, so we'll never really know for sure. But at the same time, if this is really the case, it makes sense for why Jordyn was off her game in London. She never made any catastrophic mistakes, though, others were just better. Which has been the case since American Cup in March. Hopefully Jordyn can find it in her to be satisfied & fulfilled with her accomplishments as Olympic Team Champion! |

Even if John Geddert's comments may come off as being a bad sport, I appreciate his honesty and his protectiveness of Jordyn. He seems like a good guy overall...and there aren't many who would be so willing to be the "bad guy" in order to defend their student. |

Okay, I knew this was going to happen. I am sure it's true but I wonder if it was as bad as John says. I know that once Jordyn was out of the All Around, the constant posting on Facebook stopped completely. The lesson to learn here is, don't self promote, don't oversell, and stay humble. Jordyn didn't make those mistakes, John did. |

@Aaron - I don't think anybody is kicking anybody when they are down. The US team did an amazing job. It's natural to talk about what will come next now that the Olympics are over.
IMO a coach is a supporting role. Think about a movie - behind the scenes there are hundreds of supporting role that help make the star of the picture the main focus. To me a coach has the same job - they are the background support to help their gymnast shine and not try and share the spotlight with them.
I also think this is the real first "social media" Olympics. Social media was just starting back in 2008 but in 2012 it was front and center. The supporting roles (coaches) have more access to the public than ever before and it seems they might have not been sure how to utilize it in the best way possible for all involved.
Part of being a professional athlete is being able to handle speculation and public interest. Part of being a coach to a professional athlete is being able to handle speculation and public interest.
