USA Gymnastics hosted the US Men's Qualifier for the 2010 Visa Championships over the weekend at the US Olympic Training Center. This was the last chance for the guys to qualify to Championships. Jesse Silverstein continues to improve and put up the top score in the senior division, and after just 1 year with Cypress Gymnastics program, Daniel Potemski put up the top score in the junior division. Below is the press release from USAG and the list of qualifiers from the weekend. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., July 10, 2010 – Jesse Silverstein of Suffern, N.Y., and Daniel Potemski of Round Rock, Texas, both earned the top all-around scores for the senior and junior divisions, respectively, at the 2010 U.S. Men’s Qualifier at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The two also were among the male gymnasts who qualified to compete in the 2010 Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics national championships, in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 10-14. The Men’s Qualifier was the last opportunity for the country’s male gymnasts to qualify for this year’s Visa Championships. Silverstein topped the list of senior qualifiers posting an 88.100 point total in the Qualifier’s all-around. Danell Leyva of Naranja, Fla., who had already qualified for the Visa Championships, had the second highest all-around score. Andrew Elkind of Colorado Springs, Colo., who also advanced to the Visa Championships, rounded out the top three all-around scores for the seniors. In addition to Potemski, the high scores in the junior all-around went to Kevin Baker of Union, Ky., who was second, and Wyatt Aycock of Orlando, Fla., who had already qualified to the Visa Championships. The field included a combination of men vying for berths to the Visa Championships and gymnasts who previously qualified and used the Qualifier as a tune-up for the Visa Championships. The complete men’s field for the Visa Championships will be released later this week. The gymnasts who advanced to the Visa Championships from the Men’s National Qualifier, along with results from the competition, are listed below. No awards were presented at the Qualifier. For the senior division, the top 23 gymnasts using the Men’s Program Committee 20-point system advanced to the Visa Championships. Nine age-eligible juniors qualified for the Visa Championships. The 2010 Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics’ national championships, features the country’s best gymnasts vying for national titles and spots on the U.S. National Team. Men’s and women’s gymnastics will be held at the XL Center, with rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline and tumbling staged at the University of Hartford’s Chase Arena. 2010 Men’s National Qualifier Top 23 Senior Division Athletes Qualified Gymnast - AA Score - Total Points (click any linked gymnast's name to watch their videos on gymnastike.) 1.
