The rumor is true! Jenny Hansen, University of Kentucky's most decorated gymnast and 3-time NCAA All Around Champion, has fully committed herself to a comeback to elite gymnastics!
She shocked the gymnastics world by showing up, and looking great, at the most recent elite qualifier in hosted by USA Gymnastics in Orlando. Jenny was competing alongside girls less than half her age, but really looked to be enjoying herself. Check out the video:
Some thought it was just for fun, but according to a recent ukathletics.com feature on Hansen, she's going all in.
She told ukathletics, "My ultimate goal would be to get to the Olympics but my current goal is just to try to get on the national team."
She may have competed basic routines in Orlando, but check out the back handspring to back full flight series at the end of this video!
That video was taken at a gymnastics camp. Currently Hansen is living out in California and has worked as a stunt double on Make it or Break it, but is committed to full-time training. She makes ends meet by doing a little personal training on the side and coaching a couple days per week at the gym where she trains.
What's next for Jenny? She'll be competing at the elite qualifier on July 2nd at the Ranch in hopes of attaining the scores she needs (53.00 all around) to qualify to the US Classic in Chicago. Then she's hoping to get to Championships, "In Chicago, hopefully I'll get the qualifying score to go to the Visa Championships in St. Paul. This year that's my ultimate goal."
Just how old is Hansen? She finished her NCAA eligibility in 1996. You do the math.
I'll leave you with this - Watch Jenny dominate the SEC Championships back in 1994:
