Russia names Olympic gymnastics teams

The Russian Federation has named its Olympic gymnastics teams, according to Russian sports outlet R-Sport. The teams are as follows: Women: Viktoria Komova, Anastasia Grishina, Aliya Mustafina, Ksenia Afanasyeva and Maria Paseka.   Reserves: Tatiana Nabieva, Yulia Inshina Men: Emin Garibov, David Belyavskiy, Denis Ablyazin, Alexander Balandin and Igor Pakhomenko.   Reserves: Nikita Ignatiev, Sergei Khorokhordin The gymnastics competition at the 2012 London Olympics begins July 28.

Leyva, Orozco Named to U.S. Olympic Team

Two members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic men's gymnastics team were announced Saturday, as Danell Leyva and John Orozco were named to the London squad at the conclusion of the men's competition.  Leyva was the Trials winner for the men, posting a final score of 368.35. Jordyn Wieber was the steadiest gymnast night one in San Jose, rolling to a .3 tenth lead over Gabby Douglas at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, 61.7-61.4. Shortly before the women's competition was scheduled to begin on Friday, USA Gymnastics announced via Twitter that 2008 Olympian Bridget Sloan had scratched from the competition. Danell Leyva took the lead after the first night of competition at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in San Jose, totaling 276.5 points. Leyva's numbers from night one were totaled with his scores from two nights of competition at the Visa Championships earlier this month, where he finished a narrow second to John Orozco. Canadian Women's Olympic Team Finalized

CTV Olympics has announced that Kristina Vaculik, Victoria Moors, Dominique Pegg and Brittany Rogers have all qualified to the 2012 Canadian Olympic team.   Later on Thursday, Gymnastics Canada announced via Twitter that Ellie Black will be the fifth athlete on the London squad.  Jessica Savona and Madeline Gardiner have been named reserves. Maroney Cleared to Compete at Trials

Less than three weeks after suffering a concussion and small nasal fracture at the Visa Championships, McKayla Maroney has been medically cleared to compete at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in San Jose this weekend.  USA Gymnastics released this statement Wednesday regarding Maroney's condition: "McKayla Maroney has been monitored and evaluated on a daily basis by the USA Gymnastics medical staff for a concussion and nasal fracture that she sustained at the 2012 Visa Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
