@collegegymfan... I am guessing you are going into your sopre year of high school so you are still in that off limits category for college coaches (no emails and phone calls). Have you been on any unofficial visits yet? Alabama? Verbal offers usually start coming to the table during the spring time sopre year (around JO Nationals). Verbal offers can be offered on unoffical visits(while on campus) or through your club coaches by phone. If you are in the A list for Alabama then I am sure you have been or will be taking unofficial soon. Many schools are starting to wait on some scholarships to later on in the process since a lot can happen in the 2- 21/2 years before entering college |

Hi I have a question I was hoping someone could answer. I am looking for a college scholarship ( I'm a sopre) and I have a VERY competitive class. I'm looking to verbally commit soon but how does that work? Can someone explain that for me? Is it through the coach? Or do they just ask you over the phone? And what would you say to them if they did ask you? I mean would you just say "yes"? That seems kinda awkward to me?!?! Haha oh well... But people in my class are already committing and the coaches at Alabama are kinda looking at me( I'm on the "a" recruiting list) but I want to be sure because there are only two spots left. Sorry this had nothing to do with Aliya! |

Mustafina is an incredible person and an inspiration to us all, no matter what country you cheer for. No one (not even her coaches!) believed she could come back to be competitive, and yet she left London the most decorated gymnast of all. Well done, Aliya; I hope we see you in Rio! |

"In the first picture on bars, her legs look like Rebecca Bross's legs. Does Mustafina also have knock knees? " |

In a way, I think her injury proved somewhat of a good push for her to focus on bars and on her execution ... she got the gold on bars and then the tie-breaking twice went her way because it favored better execution than difficulty. We'll never really know what she'd have accomplished without that injury, but what we know for sure, is that she's a golden girl in this Games. |

@brian bias: The FX bronze really could've gone either way. I was gutted for Ferrari because she did a great routine (and I thought her leotard was fantastic!) One thing to consider is that Ferrari landed with chest down on three passes (the double saltos), which are all landing deductions. Mustafina's twisting form (as mentioned) was horrendous, but she gets great height on her skills and is able to land more upright than Vanessa. I agree that the amount of ties was disappointing. It's amazing that even with open-ended scoring we still can't separate the athletes. Thanks for the feedback! |

@Brian Bias: First of all Khorkina performed during the 10.0 era. Secondly, she actually had some difficult dance maneuvers in her routines all the way back to the mid-90s she was performing complex jump combinations on FX. Thirdly, her tumbling difficulty didn't have to be as high because unlike Simona Amanar (who had amazing tumbling, but literally no difficult dance maneuvers in her routine) she could make up for it with dance elements. It's no different than her basically DOMINATING uneven bars for almost a decade with routines that was 20 seconds long compared to the Chinese's marathon routines because of her (yes) innovative and (yes) difficult maneuvers on that apparatus. Additionally, a lot of Sveta's tumbling was actually quite clean. She was a great twister and that's why she didn't do much double somi passes until she added in the double pike for Sydney. |

Ferrari's landings in the floor final were cleaner than Musty's. Her difficulty was higher, her execution was sharper and her presentation was just as amazing. Let's not gloss it over just because it's done now. I think Musty deserved 2 medals here but the AA was tainted and her floor final score was a a gift. Did the judges see her twisting passes??? The Italians spoke out and rightfully so IMO. It reminded me of all those times Sveta won floor medals for waving her hands around and performing weaker tumbling. |

Before her knee injury I just didn't see the sparkle others saw. When she made her comeback I saw her maturity and appreciation for the sport grow. She is now one of my favorite and I cannot wait to see what she does after this (since she said she will be training for Rio).
@Anonomous Coward - No she does not have bad knees, some gymnasts do the toes together-legs apart to try and get less execution deductions during high flying skills.
