Hey everyone,
I’m out in beautiful southern California right now scoping out the LA area for its best gymnasts and coaches. Today I hung out in Temecula at SCEGA Gymnastics. I interviewed senior international elite and this year’s US Classic all-around and beam champion Ashley Scott. She is a really sweet girl and hopefully she’ll secure her spot on the senior national team this year. I could tell she has a ton of potential. I filmed her workout with teammates Kami Amemiya-Shows and Megan Jimenez. Megan is coming off an injury, and Kami is just 10 years old but she’s incredibly talented and has just passed the optional portion of the HOPES testing.
But more importantly, the Olympics have been extremely exciting! It was so great to see our men’s team come together like they did last night in the team final. They overcame a lot of adversity in losing the Hamm twins, and I really admire how Raj and Sasha stepped up as alternates. I got so nervous watching it toward the end. I don’t even think I breathed during the entire pommel rotation.
I’m counting on the women to do the same tonight. It’ll be tough to compete against the Chinese at home, but I really think they call pull out the gold. Hopefully they got all their kinks out in qualifying. Something was just not right the other day – they didn’t look like themselves. Well I’m gonna rush out of here now to catch the broadcast. I’ll have the videos from today up soon!
