The week ahead in New England/NJ
March 11, 2010
The previews have gotten much shorter just due to a variety of
factors. Here’s the weekend ahead in a nutshell. Brown is off until
next week.
Southern Connecticut, Temple, #31 Maryland at Penn Friday 7pm, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA
SCSU and Temple had a close meet against each other last week, and
Penn continues to improve their scoring week to week. Maryland is one
of the top teams on the eastern seaboard. Temple and Penn are working
towards ECAC D1 Championships just two weeks from this weekend, and
SCSU has their own championship meet that weekend as well. Maryland… more »
The week ahead in brief.
March 4, 2010
Apologies for the much shorter than
usual previews. Just a matter of time constraints. Anyway, the week
ahead for the region's teams is as follows:
Towson, Temple, Southern Connecticut at
Bridgeport
University of Bridgeport, Wheeler Rec
Center, 7pm Friday, March 5th.
Towson is currently the ECAC Division 1
champion and their hosts Bridgeport are the reigning D2 champs in the
ECAC as well, yet either of these teams could beat the other. Temple
is a frequent opponent of each as well. Southern Connecticut is not
only a frequent opponent of UB, and a presumed rival, but has also
seen their… more »

February 27, 2010
With conditions uncertain up in New Hampshire I cancelled my trip up there to cover the meet, but that gave me the chance to take in a club meet instead.
TOLLAND, CT- When the University of Connecticut club team started competing, Boston University hosted them in their first competitive meet, and when Sacred Heart's club team was reactivated after a lull, UConn served to host their return to action. Tri-Town Gymnastics was the scene as a group of parents and spectators gathered around each apparatus as the teams competed for the lone judge in attendance. It was… more »

Modest Preview for Utah State, Ball State, Yale at UNH
January 16, 2010
(Scores from Troester)
Utah State, Ball State, Yale at New Hampshire
Lundholm Gymnasium, Sunday, January 17th, 1PM
It will be a rare meet indeed when these four teams come together. Yale and UNH are familiar opponents, but Utah State and Ball State are certainly not. It could be a close meet between teams spread across the country. It will be the second meet in three days for Utah State. Ball State continues a string of road meets. Yale will be looking to open up their season with a new lineup following the graduation of three core senior members of it.… more »

MIT Gymnastics returns as a club team.
October 30, 2009
I tend to not have much to write about in the college offseason and the preseason activities up here in the northeast are few and far between. But one bit of nice news, is that two club sports teams, one for the men and one for the women have been formed at MIT to carry on the sport up in Cambridge. I was thrilled to read in the student newspaper just last week of their return. It is unfortunate when varsity teams get cut and it keeps happening which is driving me nuts, but at least the sport lives on.… more »

April 25, 2009
When I entered college in 1998, I had been a gymnastics fan for some time, picking up the fandom largely the olympics of 1992, and following it through to 1996 in Atlanta, though I followed it a little less and by 98 I wasn't following it as much. Once settled into the University of Connecticut I started to follow the sport again though struggled to find the time and money to do more than just check websites from time to time. Eventually during grad school I had more time and money and even started websites on the sport, which soon… more »

Very soon I will be doing individual previews for the meets
but with the season barely a few weeks old and some teams having their first
meets last week, it’s still early yet. (Scores from Troester) While all team members contribute in tangible

Why College Gymnastics in the Northeast is so interesting!
January 14, 2009
UNH is a very interesting piece of this story but they're just the tip of the iceberg.
While the majority of coverage in college gym is devoted to the top ranked teams, and sometimes extends into the regional powers of the top 36 (those who get to regionals.) the northeast region of the U.S. remains replete with story lines. While very few teams reach the top echelon of the rankings, Penn State being the exception, no one gets to be a college gymnast without being very good at the sport so the action is still very intense. But beyond just… more »

The weather reports are so scary down here that even though it might have been possible for me to slip into Boston and out again it's also possible I might have ended up stranded on the Mass pike the way the weather guys are putting it. I rarely avoid meets due to weather but I've learned to respect what Mother Nature can deliver. Now of course because I cancelled the snow will probably arrive tomorrow or something but who knows.
I did purchase the UNH online package though so I will be watching and commenting on Rutgers at UNH at… more »
The Week Ahead in New England College Gymnastics
January 9, 2009
The week ahead in New England College Gymnastics will be a busy one with four meets Saturday January 10th at 1PM.
Southern Connecticut opens up the season at D3 Springfield. It will
be the first competition for the Owls to try out their new lineup and
see how the new additions will do mixed with the veterans. Bridgeport
is having their team selection meet which is a mystery as to what that
means, but presumably given it’ll affect the lineup composition the
following week.
Rutgers at New Hampshire, Durham, NH. The two EAGL teams will open up the season at… more »
Modest previews for SCSU, MIT, Brown, UNH, Yale, Rutgers up.
January 9, 2009
I’ve posted modest team previews, which certainly have plenty of limitations as usual, but should they be of any interest they’re up. Bridgeport’s preview is coming next week. I wanted to add more color to them, but time didn’t allow it, but I will be putting that into meet reports. http://gymnasticsreport.net/super/index.php?cat=16 (Sometimes I'll just post the info here directly, but it makes more sense just to link to the content this time.) As a fan the amount that I don’t know about gymnastics far outweighs what I do know so these previews are basically based on what I can write… more »
Gymnasticsreport.net Meet Coverage Schedule 2008-2009
November 11, 2008
I've finally settled on the meets I'll be travelling to, mainly to cover them for Gymnasticsreport.net, but a few will be just to visit including some non-college events. I don't think I can say enough how much I'll miss seeing URI in action. What more is there to say...
For those not familiar with the site (namely everyone haha) I post reports on the college meets I attend and try to identify as many routine elements as possible as well as floor music and provide an overall report on the meets and the teams. The focus is New England because… more »

Gymnastics needs more coverage, especially college gym.
October 3, 2008
Although I'm new to Gymnastike I've had a familiar refrain across the small but vibrant internet gymnastics community arguing that gymnastics as a sport needs far more coverage from the media. I believe that the media should pay more attention to the elite scene, especially between Olympics, but even beyond that, far more media coverage should go to collegiate gymnastics which is comprised of some amazing athletes, but not only is largely overlooked by the sports world, these has been programs being cut over the years and it's certainly possible that trend could continue.
The truth is many of the… more »
