About the V-ups, it is true that the lower back has to always touch the floor, and that's what the gymnasts are told usually (not sure if that is the case in the video). In my gym we do V-ups but they can't go lower if that means that the lower back is off the floor and I haven't had particular problems with their back. Actually if worked in the right way the strength in the abs takes pressure off the back. |

About the V ups on floor- I, too, have heard from a lot of people that they are bad for your back and that there are better exercises. Usually though, I was told that they are okay if you have the necessary strength to support your back in that kind of situation (off of the floor, carrying a fair amount of body weight...). Not sure now, if that's correct, but if so, I'd assume those athletes would be fine. |

awful......no wonder us gymnasts are horrible dancers...this warm-up has no grace built into it at all.......there is a better way than this. |

Sooo basically some physical therapist in some other country told your dad that those exercises are bad which therefore means that their word is the gold standard? Hmmmm interesting ... |

I don't know the names since English is not my mother tongue : that's when you are lying on your back and lifting the torso and the legs at the same time. |

It's surprising to see how high level gymnastics coaches include exercises in their warm-up that are very bad for the lower back! |

Pretty cool to see, how long does it all actually take? Id say no more than 15 minutes? |

I like that Chris compared it to being a newcomer to an aerobics class. I'd never thought of it that way, but surely it is intimidating for young ones to go into a training camp and have to do this in unison with everyone else and not really know what is going on. |
