This week's gymnastics technique video comes from John Geddert. John shows how he breaks down the flyaway on uneven bars into several steps which include timing and position type drills. John is a US National Team Coach, Region 5 JO Chairman, and owner of Gedderts Twistars in Michigan.

i spot 150 pound, 5'6" high school sophomores and juniors on this skill regularly. just boost your low bar up as high as it goes, and use a double spot and verbal cues. they don't learn it quite the same as the little kids i coach, but the end result is still the same - beautiful flyaways.

that's great, but I'd like to see you try this with a 5'3" 105 lb. 12 year old. Not all girls working flyaways are little, perfect bodied gymnasts. I did the flat drops with my girls for months before they started flipping, but is there another drill between that and the flip that the bigger girls can do?
