This week's gymnastics workout video features the 2010 Penn State women's team. Penn State qualified for NCAAs last season and finished 10th in the country. They didn't graduate a single routine from last year and gained a few great freshmen. Currently ranked #16, watch for Penn State to continue to climb the rankings and land at Nationals yet again.

This workout was filmed January 28th as the women prepared for their home meet hosting then #1 Alabama and Minnesota.

Interesting. I was under the impression that most college athletes (well certainly the elites) don't really learn new skills in college. And I have heard that seniors tend to be replaced by underclassmen (opposite of what you see in men's gym, where 22 year old muscle development gives an advantage over 18 year olds).

Not trying to make any big point...just kinda brainstorming. Also, wouldn't it be better to do the big skill the whole time and have practice at it? IOW, tolerate some lower scores early to show more difficulty later?
Besides, I thought most of the college athletes had full difficulty? Certainly the sport "tops out" in a way different from men's gym.

In what manner does he "hold back"?
I think he just means in how hard he pushes them early on. Like they don't bring out full difficulty until later in the season. I know some of them have bigger dismounts on bars but most of them have been competing blind full double tuck. This team came out of nowhere late last year and did great at nationals. I'm hoping they'll do the same again!

because the difference between 14th and 4th is less than a point. . . they aren't bad its just everyone ranked top 15 are pretty close. it will just come down to the big comps, who hits and who doesn't.

They have insane difficulty for a college team. especially on beam and floor. why aren't they ranked any higher?

Great video! Love the poster at the end.
Some great looking skills and execution there, I'm impressed :-) Another team I'll be looking out for!
