After a long wait, Workout Wednesday Season 4 is finally here! To begin, we'll visit one of the best teams in the NCAA, the UCLA Bruins. This workout was filmed by Kyle Khou on January 7th, just 2 days before UCLA upset Utah in what they called the "Ultimate Tiebreaker" after being knocked out of last season's Super Six in a tiebreaker with the Utes. The Bruins put up the highest score in the NCAA during opening weekend and earned themselves the #1 National ranking. They have since dropped to #9 with a few inconsistent performances but look for the Bruins to climb back to the top.
Here we are five months since the filming of this workout, and in that time the Bruins burst back onto the scene. Here's a rundown of their last 5 months:
The UCLA Bruins won the 2010 NCAA Championships, won the 2010 LA Regional Championships, won the 2010 Pac 10 Championships, Vanessa Zamarripa became NCAA Champion on vault, and Brittani McCullough the NCAA Champion on Floor, senior Anna Li has announced a comeback to elite gymnastics, and just last week sophomore Vanessa Zamarripa earned Senior International elite status and qualified to compete at the 2010 US Championships. I thought in honor of all that we should take a look back at the work that was put in back in January inside the Bruin gym.

It was fun to watch this video again and reflect back on how the Bruins started the 2010 season. They looked very strong, focused and determined
back in January and by the time they entered the post-season, they had added a tangible air of confidence, poise and polish that was evident in Gainseville. We are so proud of our Bruins and will cherish the wonderful memories of the 2010 season. Thank you for your great coverage of NCAA gymnastics.
they're looking pretty good!
when does Anna Li hope to get back in elite? And since she was an elite prior to college would she have to requalify to senior international?
Great team and great video! cool to go back and see where it all started. I can not wait to see Zam represent at Championships!
Yeah, it's because they encoded the whole video in 16:9 aspect ratio, some parts are from a widescreen camera, and others aren't so some things look fine while others look stretched.
this video looks distorted.. it looks stretched horizontally.
So excited Workout Wednesdays are back! My fave feature on this site. I agree with Nicole - I'd love to see the what the assignments are, etc, again, rather than just clips of the gymnasts working out - it's much more educational to know what the purpose is, the methods, the goals, etc. That way, you can see how these top programs really train. Thanks for bringing Workout Wednesday back!
These girls are awesome!
Love the video, but the music was awful!!
they should be back up in top three after this weekend, since they switch to ranking by RQS this weekend.
aah I've missed Workout Wednesday! Soo glad to have it back!! Nice choice on the bruins. Love that team. I agree that they'll be a top 3 team by the end of the year
Thanks, Kyle! This is great!
Excellent coverage, Kyle. I love the variety of girls, skills, and events.
Also, excellent editing. Perfect blurbs and mix of event order.
I do like when at the beginning of the video the coach explains the theme/goals for the workout so you can gauge how a "regular" workout runs and what they are aiming for in the one covered. So I did miss that from this video but it was an awesome start to season 4!
