Mattie Larson of All Olympia made a statement tonight in her first meet back in about 2 years. Mattie took the Senior All Around title at tonight's CoverGirl Classic with a 57.15 All Around. She also placed 4th on vault, tied for 8th on bars, and 2nd on floor. Watch out for Mattie and teammate Samantha Shapiro at the upcoming US Championships!

Just to set the record straight-word from the floor was Mattie/Sam were the only "real" girls on the floor. They were both very nice to everyone-did an outstanding job (hope Sam's injury is minor) so kuddos to them! Our support 100% to gymnasts like this that set a great example of what this sport should be!

I'm sure that is true but it doesn't surprise me we can't keep girls in this sport anymore. Between the rudeness on the floor, the total disregard by everyone if your not it these girls that worked so hard to get here have to be depressed. Just saying a little notice that they were there would have been nice. Oh and the "fake" hugs at the end? Just that!

Well, all the girls that were featured mainly at this competition were once lost in the crowd amongst more featured gymnasts and now it is their turn to shine. Once these girls are done it will be the next group of girls' time. It's a cyclical process it just takes time and patience.

I have to say I forgot how much i loved her gymnastics till this weekend! And she's a great interview too. Can't wait to see what she does at visa's.

Hi Mattie,

Welcome back Mattie! We are so proud of you! My daughter was in gymnastics and we know how hard it is to come back from an injury. Your tenacity is inspiring!

I understand the need to satisfy the TV contract. I just think USAG should really try to let Anne cover whatever she can. Maybe even interviews at the hotel or whathave you. Maybe the less "mobbed" athletes would be up for it.

Elizabeth is right, I was only allotted 10 minutes of interviews due to the universal coverage. You know I would have talked to every girl there if I could. Check out the podium training day interviews and videos on the bottom of the page, there is a bit more variety there. If you guys ever have specific requests for interviews you can always let me know and I will do my best to make it happen. Thanks for the feedback, no offense taken!
absolutly not towards you personally! Universal sports only showed the "known" girls even just warming up! We all love you anne and think you do a wonderfull job providing us with what you do!! THANKS!
Hey it might be cool if you are at Visas to interview some of the first timers, and get there feel on things!! Thanks again!!!

AGREED!! we all know and appreciate the girls that have been around! But for some of these girls they worked there tails off and you wouldnt even know they were there! guess we will just have to wish them the Best on our own!! GOOD LUCK GIRLS WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!!

Man hard to tell there were more than 8-10 girls in this competition by all the coverages. Would love to see someone cover the whole thing and not just the "big" names, we can usually count on Gymnastike for that but not this time. TV coverage showed us girls talking to each other rather than girls on events-very sad. All these girls worked really hard to get here, we would rather see girls competing rather than talking or doing nothing between events. Sad day!
You are correct. It would be nice to see more people covered, but kudos need to be given to Gymnastike for covering what they could. They are limited to what they can cover due to the TV contract. & unfortunately USA Gymnastics is pretty much forced to have a contract with NBC b/c of the US Olympic Committee's deal with them, even though another station would most likely provide better coverage. In the end, let's just be grateful we get any coverage b/c the Classic used to not be covered.

apol- nooooo if they change the scoring system in NCAA it will kill the sport much like it did the men's! There was a bigger crowd at NCAA than there probably will be at this year's Visa's. If there are a few girls who want to both, great- but I don't think changing the scoring system will encourage more girls to try both.

Don't forget about Cassie she is also a Bruin!

Yea! Go Mattie!

Just need to change the scoring college and make it FIG rules. Like the men do. Could really get some good things done for national competition by having the huge pool of college gymnasts doing elite style work and added into the mix of competitors. Like the Oklahama boys on the National Team.
