This weeks Flash Back Friday looks back at some of the great performances of some of our National Team Coaches. Many of these gymnasts were very successful gymnasts on the world and olympic level and are now coaching some of the USA's top Men and Women's National Team Members.

FLASH BACK TRIVA: There are several gymnasts in this weeks FBF that have skills named after them still being used in this current code of points. Can you list these skills and the gymnast that invented them?

Rebecca, this video was to show the former international gymnasts who came to the US to coach and are now coaching American elites on our national team. That is why Kim, Chris, and Beth were not included - they competed for the US.

how could you not include Kim Zmeskal or Chris Waller, or even Beth Rybacki

Its no wonder the USA is so good now! We have many of the best talents of the past coaching here!

Thank you Erin for pointing that out about Li Xiaoping. I knew that the one from 1984 was coaching at South Coast but not sure why I used the other one. I have changed it in the video so thanks for that

@poster#8- Armine was an oversight and no I didnt include her but I have added her to the new video as well.

Thanks for pointing out these two OOP's on my part.

@poster #8: The video was of international gymnasts now coaching in the USA - Zmeskal, Waller, Spring (and lots of others like Rhonda Faehn, now Tim McNeill etc.) were gymnasts for the USA. I don't remember seeing Armine Fong though? Loved the video though!

here is a video with footage of the li xiaoping that coaches at south coast

The South Coast Gymnastics coach is actually Li Xiaoping, a 1984 Olympian not Li Xiaopeng from the 2008 Olympics.

You forgot Kim Zmeskal, Justin Spring, and Chris Waller. Nice video though.

Alex- Nice Job you even got the piatti with a 1/1 from Suarez. The marinich in layout position in the code is actually just called a layout Marinich. Yes you are right that Marinich was one of the first to do the tkatchev front on high bar but it actually is named after Xiao Ruizhi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjO7_dDvOTI.

I guess I am going to have to make the men's trivia harder next time.

Skills on the men's side:
Li Yuejiu - straddle side flip 1 and 3 on floor.
Casimiro Suarez - back tuck 1 1/4 flip with half turn to upper arm on pbars. and i believe he may have done the piatti (stalder, freehip, or toeon tkatchev) with full twist on high bar.
Li Xiaopeng - yurkenko 1/2 on front 5/2 off.
Vitaly Marinich - handspring with front tuck or pike roll out on floor (skill done in layout position for a higher value). although in the code its not in his name...its commonly known that he invented the swing forward with front flip straddled or piked to regrasp on high bar.
Valeri Liukin - triple back tuck on floor. and layout tkatchev with full turn on high bar.

Li Xiaopeng would be the most current olympic gold medalist out this weeks video, winning two golds in 2008 for the team and as an individual on pbars.

Sorry guys...i'm not as familiar with the women's side of things!
