These are some training clips from my adult gymnastics class at Texas Dreams Gymnastics in Coppell, Texas. I did gym as a kid for about 7 years for fun, and started gymnastics again in January of 2010. We have class once a week for about an hour to hour and a half and can work on whatever we like. The other girl Jennifer in the video, she and I switch off weeks doing two rotations each week, so one week we'll do vault and bars, then beam and floor the next week, since we have limited time in the gym.
We are trying to get more hours in the gym starting soon! I hope you like the video! Please don't be critical, I'm just learning gymnastics again for fun :)
If you live in the Dallas area and want to join our class, they offer a free trial class, so just call the gym and schedule one! Our class is Monday nights from 8-9 pm, we'd love to have you!

Do you know of any adult gymnastics competitions? Thanks!I know that me and one of my classmates are going to do the AAU Junior Olympic Games this coming summer in New Orleans. They have an adult division, you can do either Level 8 or Intermediate Optional, which is a level where you can basically just make up a routine composed of A skills and B skills. We are both going to do Intermediate Optional, but maybe next year we'll try for Level 8. That would rock! That is really all I've heard of competition-wise, unfortunately. I have been trying to find others but not much luck :( |

To "Hey, that's great" -- I got some grips! I took advantage of the Gymnastike/American Gymnast coupon during Worlds and bought a pair of Reisport grips! I've been trying really hard to get my kip without them so once they're broken in I can start trying to do it with them. They are so bizarre to wear but I'm sure I'll get used to them soon! |

Gymnastics is fun!

Hey Amy, you are great. Love to see adult gymnastics besides elite and college gym on gymnastike. I'm 27 and can't stop doing gymnastics. We have class once a week for three hours and there's no week my muscles aren't sore the day after practice. Just enjoy it. It's amazing to handle some skills I did ten years ago. Love it and will never quit by choice. Regards from Germany to all adult gymnasts in the world |

makes me want to do an adult class again (if they have any around my area)! I did a competition 10 years after my last one... there were guys in their 40s doing amazing stuff, so you have time ;) oh, and get some grips please! (and try delaying on your kip a bit longer.... and work on extending your set and that layout will come in now time!) |

Haha thanks guys for the comments! For clarification, I am 23. I did gym up to level 4-5 but I quit before I got my kip. I continued with figure skating until I was 18, so I haven't been totally out of athletics for a while! It would have been funnier if I could show y'all reference from January, haha! I couldn't do my back handspring on the floor then and I had lost all my splits, but I got left and right back now, so I've definitely progressed! I'm going to keep working hard in the gym and learning all the new skills I can! :) |

Thanks for having a segment on this. As the 4th Raw Ambition vid demonstrated, growing into adulthood doesn't necessarily make a gymnast's love for the sport diminish and although universally very minimal, I'm glad there are opportunities for adults to get in the gym. Although adults have different limitations than kids, those limitations don't necessarily make gymnastic participation and growth impossible. Amy - keep it up! You're an inspiration! |
