Correct J she feel onto the beam so it was a fall not a grasp

j 2 years ago

Grasping the beam is a .3 deduction in NCAA, right? Whereas falling on the beam (as EHH did) is considered to be the same as falling off of the beam.

Jason from Gymnastike 2 years ago

That is considered a fall and the deduction was .5, Emma is correct. In terms of .8 there is no .8 deductions. In the elite program the deduction for a fall is 1.0. It was .8 in the last quad but now is 1.0.

its a .3 deduction for that kind of fall but if she were to have actually fallen off the beam then it's .5

Emma 2 years ago

I think it's a .4 deduction vs a .8 deduction (since she got a 9.3, had she not fallen at all she'd have at least a 9.7 and then credit for completing the split jump). Elyse is a tough cookie and she will definitely get stronger on this event as the season progresses.
A fall is .5 in NCAA gymnastics, not .8 (they generally follow JO level 10 rules). That being said, I'm not sure whether or not there is a difference between falling off the beam and falling onto the beam.

What would the point difference be if she had actually fallen OFF the beam?
