This thread contains a post from her mother in which she alludes to the fact that Allison has a scholarship when she refers to it as "her [Allison's] scholarship." Surely, her mother would argue that the negative comments regarding Allison's right to a scholarship were irrelevant if Allison did not, in fact, have a scholarship. Her username "ATsMom." |

Notice UCLA never travels Greig, Shannon, Kozai...even when there's room... UCLA doesn't bring non-scholarship, non-performers to away meets. Never has. Tom, Sato, and sometimes Kushynski travel because they are used in line-ups/exhibitions. Pritchett and Hyland get to go somewhere like Cal once a year. Scholarship girls typically travel, performing or not, unless there's a specific situational reason leave them behind.Tom, Sato always travel. Kozai has traveled to every meet this year. Taylor had a good floor routine.. just one of the few routines I couldn't recover!:( |

Tkatchev- the travel squad in college gymnastics is 15 gymnasts and only 12 can be on scholarship, though you are right that Allison is on scholarship, there are gymnasts that travel that aren't on scholarship. Now not all programs travel 15 athletes but that is what they are allowed. So to say because she is traveling she is on scholarship is not correct on every occasion (except for Utah most years as they rarely have more then 12-13 on their team). |

Do you think she is on a academic scholarship now. [?]Nope. I know for certain that she is on *athletic* scholarship. People who keep up generally know this. But if it helps you understand, one way you can 'tell' is that she gets to travel to away meets in which she does not perform (either compete or exhibition). Only girls on athletic scholarship get that privilege as the travel budget does not extend to non-performing walk-ons. |

I understand that it may not be fair, considering I was a non scholarship athlete myself but to attack her personally and to talk poorly of her on here is wrong. No matter what the situation is, I'm sure that she is not at fault. Sure there may be girls who contribute more and they probably should get the scholarship.. its just not fair to bash her on here when she has obviously done nothing wrong, the coaches are responsible for deciding who gets to keep their scholarships. |

Well the reason we don't leave her alone, Hay, is because we obviously think there is something wrong with this picture. Apparently you do not. I guess this situation is acceptable to you. |

Will everyone just leave this girl alone! first of all the part of the routine she messed up is actually not an easy combination, lots of girls aren't able to uphill out of a blind half straddle hand, competing it at one point, i know it is not an easy combination. And the fact that she is on scholarship is the coaches doing and she is not going to just give up her education being paid for at a school like UCLA, none of you would either! So why dont you leave her alone and worry about yourselves. |

Well ladies and gentlemen- the fact that Miss Val keeps athletes like this (while likely VERY pleasant and supportive) whom are unable to achieve the high scores is part of the reason that teams such as SUU are able to maximize their abilities and WIN over the reigning national champions. Good work Scott Bauman on recruiting athletes are get it done in the gym AND the classroom. |

I don't understand Allison's mistake there. She makes her Tkatchev and falters on a transition to high bar? |

If she's having a good experience and isn't bringing down the team, well then live and let live. That's a nice warm and fuzzy mantra, but it ignores some of the realities of the situation that have understandably caused consternation. Scholarships to UCLA have a value circa 40k per year. They are not awarded so that their recipients can have a jolly time. They're given in exchange for hard work and athletic contributions. A scholarship is subject to annual renewal; it's not a 4 year deal. Coaches of top teams expect their scholarship athletes to contribute regularly to the line-up and team score. When when situations arise where athletes fail to do so, adjustments are typically made. For example, last season Greg Marsden did not renew Megan Whtney or Katelyn Mohr... both were promising recruits on video who ultimately were nowhere near being able to help the Utah team score after getting to campus. UGA usually gives girls 2 years to adjust to college. Jay's comments in the press indicate he expects Kati Breazeal to get it together this year. In the past, Valorie Kondos regularly removed athletes from the roster/scholarship who didn't have it together. Allison's situation is unique. No one in the history of the team has been able to remain on scholarship for 4 years and contribute so little actual gymnastics. Valorie has been tight lipped about Ally in the press. She wasn't so mum about past non-contributors and problem children. Moreover, Nikki Tom and Mizuki Sato, walk ons, picked up the slack and contributed to the team score on multiple events week in and week out without being duly rewarded. It's beyond ridiculous that Taylor has been on scholarship while these 2 haven't. So that begs the question: Why? Anyone close to the program will tell you: because she's from WOGA. The criticisms and frustrations are warranted. But at the end of the day Ally is laughing her way to the bank... so don't feel too bad for her. Maybe if she uses that sociology degree to become a millionaire, she'll remember her good buddies Nikki and Mizuki. |

She just needs more experience competing in college. I believe she's been injured which is why she hasn't performed much. no need for negative comments...just leads to bad karma.Alison Taylor is a senior in college. She has demonstrated the same problems with lack of fitness, lack of focus and weak performances through her entire career. If she came from some obscure gym she'd have been out of a scholarship sophmore year, tops. |

She has not been seriously injured. Had that been the case, medical retirement would've been an option since she essentially has not competed for 3 seasons. Ally herself stated in interviews/ Bruin diary pieces she wrote as a sophomore and junior that she was healthy. Ironically, the one year she did have an injury was the same season that she actually appeared in line-ups. As a freshman she had a stress fracture in her foot shortly after arriving on campus, but it healed in time for her to compete in January. |

I've known this kid since her DGC days! I have always loved this kid! A hard worker, dedicated athlete and an excellent role model! Good for you Alison for finishing out your goal and getting a great education along with it :) |
