Izabow- Male gymnasts are treated with that respect because their peak training years are in their 20s. At that point male gymnasts are away from home and need financial support. For the most part, female gymnast are still under the age of 18 when they are training at their best. There is no need to fund an athlete that has mom and dad pay for them. There are so many talented athletes that are available, unfortunately women's gymnastics coaches move to the next generation if one cannot afford it. This is all assuming that the gym does not have scholarship opportunities for any athletes. It's a harsh reality of gymnastics.
Sure, that's fine and all, but that assumes that the female gymnast's parents are wealthy enough to support their family + her training. Mommy & Daddy might need some help themselves. Also, there are plenty of 20-somethings who are still on Mommy & Daddy's dime. This program seems a totally sexist.

I think it's great that men's gym is getting some financial support. In light of the fact that the NCAA programs have really been dwindling lately, it is nice to see the sport get some backing.

It's also because of NCAA eligibility rules. The Hilton HHonors team is only for non-NCAA (or former ncaa) male gymnasts. If current college gymnasts or even gymnasts who hope to someday compete in college were to accept sponsorship funding they would forgo their NCAA eligibility. The same goes for the girls.

Why are male gymnasts the only ones who have such scholarship opportunities available to them? No one helps pay my tuition to pursue my Olympic dream.
