Pre-American Cup Workout Wednesday with Jordyn Wieber and Twistars USA

Jordyn Wieber went on to be the 2011 World Champion* This week's gymnastics workout video features one of the top gymnasts in the world, USA National team member Jordyn Wieber, and her teammates at Gedderts Twistars USA. This workout was filmed on February 26th as Jordyn was preparing to be the alternate for the 2011 American Cup, but just 3 days later she got the call that she'd been added to the field and is expected to compete this weekend. Jordyn's teammate, junior international elite and 2010 JO National Champion Grace Williams is preparing for this weekend's 2011 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup, and the level 10's are preparing to defend their Michigan State title yet again. World Championships Workout: Team Russia
This week's gymnastics workout video features the 2011 World silver medalists and 2010 World Champions, Team Russia. Gymnastike takes you inside their training session in Tokyo, just 24 hours before the 2011 World Championships Team Final where the finished 2nd behind Team USA. The Russians had a successful World Championships but were not totally satisfied with how they fared in Tokyo. First year senior Viktoria Komova led the team with high start values and beautiful artistry but fell just short of the all around gold, finishing less than a tenth behind Jordyn Wieber for the silver. Komova went on to dominate the uneven bars final, her best event, and claimed the World title with teammate Tatiana Nabieva winning the silver. The fifth and final medal won by the Russians in Tokyo was a gold medal on floor for team veteran Ksenia Afanasyeva. Germany (Elisabeth Seitz) - New Skill! - PT
*This skill was honored as "New Skill of the Year" in Gymnastike's Best of 2011 series. The skill was successfully named as "The Seitz", valued as an E, and has been added into the FIG Code of Points. This was the first element in 26 years to be named after a German gymnast.* Elisabeth Seitz of Germany on bars during World Championships 2011 podium training. This is one of the most unique bar routines being competed at this year's World Championships with an original skill, a full twisting Maloney and a def! If Seitz successfully competes the full twisting Maloney here in Tokyo, she will get the skill officially named for her in the FIG Code of Points.

*Gymnastike covered podium training at many of the top elite competitions this season, and this was the most viewed podium training video in 2011* 2004 Olympic Beam and Floor Champion Catalina Ponor is back and looked very promising in podium training with the Romanian team at the 2011 World Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo. Here is her beam routine. She also threw a piked full in dismount with ease later on in the rotation.
Jordyn Wieber is 2011 World All Around Champion
Jordyn Wieber of USA edged Viktoria Komova of Russia for the elusive World All Around title tonight in Tokyo. Wieber had an uncharacteristic error on her bar routine but came back with an excellent performance on beam and a dynamic floor routine. Jordyn Wieber Wieber joins Kim Zmeskal (1991), Shannon Miller (1993-94), Chellsie Memmel (2005), Shawn Johnson (2007) and Bridget Sloan (2009) as U.S. women who have won the World all-around title.

World Championships Workout: China
This week's gymnastics workout video takes us back to the training halls in Tokyo at the 2011 World Championships. Watch how the defending Olympic Champions prepare for a competition. This workout was filmed on October 10, the day before the 2011 women's World Team Final. The Chinese team made a few errors and settled for the team bronze medal for the second year in a row. Later in the week, Yao Jinnan won the all around bronze medal, and Sui Lu was crowned 2011 Balance beam World Champion. USA National Team Coordinator Martha Karolyi explains her selection of the 2011 USA Women's World Championships team. She and the selection committee picked the team last night at the conclusion of 2 selection camps at the Karolyi Ranch. The 7 girls who will travel to Tokyo for the 2011 World Championships are: Alicia Sacramone, Jordyn Wieber, Alexandra Raisman, Anna Li, McKayla Maroney, Gabrielle Douglas, and Sabrina Vega. Shawn Johnson has been named the non-traveling alternate and also selected to the 2011 Pan American Games which will take place in Mexico the week after World Championships. Karolyi talks about the strategy in her team selection, the the depth of the US across each event, the plan for uneven bars, and why she left former World Champions Shawn Johnson, Chellsie Memmel and Bridget Sloan off the 2011 team.

World Championships Workout: Team Romania
This week's gymnastics workout video features one of the most legendary gymnastics programs in the world, Team Romania and coach Octavian Belu. This workout was filmed in Tokyo just 24 hours before the 2011 World Championships Team Final where Romania finished in fourth. Despite having high expectations coming into Tokyo, the Romanian team left without a single medal. Their eyes are firmly set on the 2012 London Olympics and getting reigning Olympic floor champion Sandra Izbasa healthy. 2004 Olympic beam and floor Champion Catalina Ponor began training just six months prior to the World Championships and looked fantastic in Tokyo. Viktoria Komova of Russia, Disappointed after Finishing 2nd at World Championships
Viktoria Komova of Russia was 1st all around on the qualification day of the Tokyo World Championships, but fell short in tonight's all around Final. It was a heated battle until the final rotation with fellow first year senior Jordyn Wieber of the United States. Komova lost the gold to Wieber by the slightest margin, 0.033 tenths of a point.
