this upgrade (.3) was done w/o chow being present to coach her. one can only imagine what she will be able to do once she's given a few more months with her coach. if she does weiler-jaeger, weiler 1/2-gienger, toe 1/1-shoot over 1/2-stalder uphill transition, (learn another release here, tkatchev variation), layout double double dismount, then she would be at approx 6.4.

she'll be right in the mix with a 6.4+ bar and 6.5 beam.

Aaaah, who's idea was it to film from ABOVE the bars?! Great idea, can hardly even make out what moves they're doing.
Anyway, Shawn looks like she's moved up into the next gear!

Shawn is my favourite gymnast and it's good to see her back on track. The pause at the start caused her some points, but like what you guys and Shawn said, she's making progress and that's what matters! In the next 9 months, I'm sure Shawn can improve especially so after her long road back. I'll be praying for no injuries.

I think she can do better for vault too, she can be cleaner when she lands.I'm anxious and excited to see her new floor exercise, not sure if it'll be a watered down version.
Her beam routine difficulty is there, she fell twice but her score wasn't that far away from the others. I think she needs more practice on this rountine. Once she nails it, she's ready to shine in London! Go Shawn!

It's just really good to see her back in the mix. Really admire her. She is headed in the right direction and has plenty of time to peak.

Actually, Shawn's current SV is 5.9. And no, she doesn't have the classic "bar line" because she's not built like a pixie stick. :) But what she does do so well is she doesn't hook her toes or bend/separate her legs. Great job here. :) And I agree with the comment that had she not hesitated on the handstand after the Weiler kip, she probably would've won. Ooooh, so close!

Hmmm I still think bars will be a weak event, when consider the top bar workers they all have their start values up in the 6.0 range. Shawn will most likely be in the 5.5. But honestly what plagued her last Olympics were her leaps which she fails to hit at 180, if she were to fix that I would be more impressed

The only thing Shawn needs to do is stay healthy. She is right on track with everything else!

Inter your comment.. I agree I think if she upgrades her bars more and gets more consistent on beam and does a good floor and I think it would help if she gets her amanar vault back it could help her chances in 2012

M 2 years ago

Kayla, that is very true! :-)

Corinne 2 years ago

She may not have the so called 'lines' that other good bar workers have but she's great. she connects so many skills together and almost always hits her handstands. plus if she gets her double double back. This is no longer her weak event and i think if she continues to upgrade, she'll be an asset to the team in 2012.

Kayla 2 years ago

If she upgrades her dismount to a double double layout and added the shaposh she said she has its safe to say that bars would no longer be her "weak" event...love it!

anon 2 years ago

if she could add a couple of inbar stalders before the jaeger she could really up her start value. i'm impressed by how far she's come on bars. great dismount.

Elysse 2 years ago

ugh literally if it were not for that one pause she probably would have won! but she did amazing regardless...love this new bar routine
