Oklahoma senior Megan Ferguson earned the Big 12 balance beam title on March 24, scoring 9.95. Her unique blend of style and skill have made her a fan favorite throughout her career.

This is her first routine of the year at the Kentucky Classic, where she also won the beam title with a 9.85 and was honored with Gymnastike Routine of the Week. Ferguson went on to win Big 12 Gymnast AND Specialist of the Year, and Regional Gymnast of the Year honors in her final season. The Sooners are once again a force heading into NCAA Championships.

the skills are good but the routine is rushed

I agree, Amy, I didn't notice that either. To me it just adds to the artistry of the routine. Yes, her confidence on beam and her performances never cease to amaze me. She is a true joy to watch.

I didn't even notice her wrists until I saw all the comments about it. I was more focused on her unique choreography, confidence, and beautiful performance. Who cares about her wrists?

I appreciate your comments..but it seems you are an 'authority' on this and I disagree..I am pretty sure that OU who has had the #1 BB team last year and with a coach like KJ Kindler well known for her athletes on BB would correct something if it was not intended....and yes it is found taught in several clubs..it is not a deduction..but a style preference..

funny about the comment of flexing of the wrists as that is quite common in gymnastics..and taught in a lot of clubs..I think it is a style..not a deduction..but maybe one that some people don't like..I think the point is you find few gymnasts with her unique style, confidence and total lack of deductions..
Correct, it is not a specific deduction however, it is an incorrect arm position in terms of line. The arm does look longer with the wrist extended. In fact ballet stresses this technique. There are variants in the finger position. In general, the hands should look like a natural extension of the arm; never "stiff". As far clubs that go out of their way to "teach" flex wrists, I think you'll be hard pressed to find that, especially if they have a ballet instructor on staff. The flexed wrist should and can be used as a specific choreographed position, but not taught as "the" hand position to finish or execute skills.

That said I don't believe anyone who watched this beautiful routine missed the point. Everyone has had great things to say about this routine and gymnast.

"If Megan would quit flexing her wrists so much it would make her arms look even prettier." LOL. I was thinking the same thing.

I could also do without two skills to one knee...
Great routine nonetheless. I love the fast pace... shows confidence. :)

Gorgeous routine! And quite interesting, which is great because you just don't see that type of creativity anymore.

ALways love watching Megan on beam! Thought this deserved more than a 9.85.

Loved this routine. I liked that it flowed and had artistic touches. Much better than watching the international routines these days. If Megan would quit flexing her wrists so much it would make her arms look even prettier.
