2004 Olympic All Around Champion Paul Hamm competed 4 events in today's Winter Cup Challenge, his first meet since the 2008 Olympic Trials. Aside from a 15.40 for a nice yurchenko half on, front lay out full off vault to score a 15.40, Hamm struggled on his other events. He talks about how he feels about today's competition and his goals moving forward.

i think the five will be orozco, leyva, horton (assuming he heals), dalton, and sender based on what we saw at winter cup. |

You would not think that dropping a team size from 6 to 5 would make much of a difference but it is huge. The surge of event specialists is leaving and it is the AA guys who now have the best shot - that is why Sender is back. No I think Wynn has a great shot - he went 12 for 12 and so did Legendre - You dont have to be the best at all events - just consistent. Hamm in my opinion has no chance he will not be ready on all 6 events - Maestas and Nakamori would get my vote over Hamm. If Horton can tumble he is in with Orozco, Leyva and they are really just looking for 2 other AA's - Legendre, Wynn - maybe Brooks, Sender |

o hell defnitely contribute on sr. we dont have too many sr workers with the exception of horton, who as we know is currently injured, and brandon wynn who really isnt going to be able to contribute elsewhere so es not too much a factor. there arent any other guys who can put up 15+ on sr besides orozco and dalton, which is why they were up 3 up 3 count at worlds |

If Orozco has a secure spot on this team, which I think he has a pretty solid shot barring an injury, it certainly isn't because of SR. He will be on the team for PH, PB, and HB, and his all-around. |

wasnt he arrested last year for hitting a cab driver then being a smart ass with the police? like i feel like it goes so far as for him to think hes above the law, i heard the audio with the police. its so unfortunate because he is majorly talented, dude is a beast at gymnastics. just wish he would deflate his head a lil, thats all :/ |

o ya, i totally agree that hes pissed that he didnt hit, who wouldnt be? thats just a separate issue from his uppity attitude, they are unrelated to me. and i think orozco probably has the most secure spot on the olympic team out of anyone at this point solely because of his consistency and his strengths on ph and sr |

I think Orozco is super solid, but he doesn't excel extremely on one event, and isn't anything special on FX and Vt. We do need his horse though. I'm not saying Paul isn't like that, because he is--I know him personally, but I think he is just pissed off he didn't hit. His PH is probably his saving grace, if it even matters. |

mr alum, youre complete forgetting john orozco. hes more of a shoe in than horton even, mainly because of the injury. but jonathan john and danell are locks barring any big injuries so there is not much room for paul. and yes i find him smug, not because hes upset he didnt hit his routines, just because of his overall demeanor and attitude. ive always thought that of him since before the 2000 games |

What is wrong with this interview? If you've ever done the sport, he's pissed off cause he hit 1 for 4 and the one he hit was vault and he did a watered down vt. I'd be pissed just like anyone else when you know you can hit 4 for 4 or however many events you are doing. |

Well, I did not think he was that smug, but a tad unrealistic to even think he would make 2nd day. Paul is searching for something that is not there anymore - he needs to find peace outside of gymnastics. |

idk, just my opinion i guess. ive never really liked him, his whole attitude is off-putting. his brother isnt nearly as bad. and i agree, second to john orozco blaine wilson is probably my favorite male gymnast ever. he was amazing and had a great attitude, and was cute, haha. but idk, i just feel like paul is very entitled and y. i mean its hard to call him y when hes as good as he is, but he walks around like its his world and the rest of the gymnasts are just visiting and thats clearly not the case |

It really is too bad he comes off as a jerk. He needs to learn from Blaine Wilson about how to be y in a way that isn't so off-putting. |

Couldn't agree more. Cannot stand his attitude. Admittedly, he is one of the best male gymnasts ever, but still, a little humbleness wouldn't hurt. |
