your comment that she "only won because others choked" proves the point that WINNERS are not just the ones with the hardest skills, or the grace and elegance but most of all it is the mental toughness to MAKE THE BEST ROUTINE YOU ARE CAPABLE OF UNDER PRESSURE. People's comments about how she can't vault need to back and watch her vault in the last Olympics. Sure, it was an easier vault then most top girls attempted...but it was done to perfection. People forget, this is what makes Nastia great...she knows her strengths and weaknesses, constructs the routines to be the best the possibly can with her skill set, then hits under pressure. |

Corinne: While it may seem to us (fans) that Nastia's failure to commit to the training camp is an indication that she may not be that serious in her comeback... On the contrary, she has been training in her own gym for the last 6 months. However, her efforts in mastering a new bars routine has been complicated by shoulder problems, small tears in the labrum and rotator cuff. This pain associated with the injury was bad enough to take her off the uneven bars for about a month. This explains why she did not attend the training camps, because she was at that time unable to verify 2 events. Nevertheless, she has now regained all of her skills and has a bars SV close to a 7.0... Moreover, similar to Chellsie Memmel, who declined the invitation at the recent training camp... their aging bodies may not tolerate the rigors at camp whilst recovering from an injury!. I guess at this point, let's just give her and Shawn the benefit of the doubt! Let's wait for them to debut their routine and then pass judgment thereafter! |

Nastia is such an amazing gymnast but if I was another gymnast on the National team I would be so upset with the way shes going about this comeback. These girls have been working their asses off fighting for a spot in Marta's eyes. And Nastia can't even show up to April Training Camp because she can't verify two routines?? Are you serious? This close to the olympics?? It's like shes not taking it seriously. She knows bars is her strength and she's gonna sit back and rely on that instead of giving the effort that every other girl on that team is. (except shawn. I have the same problem with her) |

Gymfan, the only reason Nastia got a medal on floor is because everyone else choked... So get YOUR facts straights. Cheng Fei was favored to win, and made a silly mistake. Alicia Sacramone faultered in qualifications and that knocked her out (had she hit her routine, Nastia would not have even been in the EF competition). Don't get me wrong, Nastia ia a great gymnast. But with only 5 sports, I think it will be hard justifying an event speciallst to Marta. (Nastia's beam is good, but no where near the difficulty of Weiber, Finnegan, Ross, or Douglas) |

She's a famewhore, and I don't think anyone said she couldn't make the team, but many of us don't want to see her on it. Also, grace and elegance, while they make for good pictures and nice viewing, aren't the only important parts of gymnastics. Sure, she can pose and leap and make her skills look good (except for any variation of a double front, in which case hers are disgusting). But she can't tumble or vault the way that far better gymnasts can, and some of them can even do bars and beam almost as well or as well as she can. Maybe not bars, but definitely beam. Also she is NOT that great of a dancer, again, she poses, and as someone who was both a real dancer and a gymnast myself, there are far better gymnasts out there who can actually dance and not just move from pose to pose. Gymnastics is about being well-rounded too, and she is not that. Anyway I just don't want to see her on the team because I find her incredibly obnoxious and I would rather see people who don't take advantage of their country's win at a world championship to make their comeback announcement. Also, she should NEVER have been on that world selection committee either, and knowing that she was training or considering it she should have recused herself from the process immediately. I'd just so much rather see Alicia, Chellsie, and/or even Shawn be put on the team representing the veterans. and given that Aly, Jordyn, and Gabby all seem like they will make it if they stay healthy and keep makng improvements, I say Chellsie (or any other AA/3 event'er that can do bars) takes that last bars spot, especially since she's an all-arounder and we need all-arounders on a 5-3-3 format. Then Nastia isn't needed. That's the only advantage she brings to the team. I just don't appreciate her sense of entitlement and her famewhoring. I think she's done very well being on the outside looking in, and should just stick to that from now on. |

Nastia Liukin is, in my opinion, the best gymnast in the world. She doesn't just do gymnastics but she does it with grace and elegance, which is something that has been lacking in the gymnastics world for quite some time. I think she's a fighter and a hard worker and if she wants it bad enough she will make the team. You can't underestimate what someone is capable of. You don't know Nastia Liukin so you can't say that she is unable to make them team. Also, to say that these athletes should not continue their sport to give others "their time" is ridiculous. This is an olympic champion we are talking about.. I would think she would know what hard work means and if she works hard and is in olympic shape then she should most definitely be on the team. It's not about "turns".. it's about talent and hard work. Okay, I'm done :) |

I just wonder how she will handle nerves when she gets back into competition. Having been so long since she last competed I imagine there would be some no matter how good of competition form you are back in. I also remember watching her at 2009 Nationals (?) and she looked a little shaky, hesistant and unsure. I say kudos if you can bring the diva out without any sort of prep, but I wonder if she'll be surprised to find herself not immediately in fighting mode at her first meet back and a little intimidated without a lot of time before the "big show" to get those nerves of steel back. |

I think what's so frustrating for me about Nastia has been how secretive she is about her status in gymnastics. She dragged her announcement about her "comeback" out way too long, and now she's dragging out her competitive reemergence, leaving us to wonder how good she still is. Would it kill her to release a training video? The longer this is dragged out, the more I'm beginning to think this is all a publicity stunt. Alicia, Shawn and Chelsie all made comebacks, and handled them in much more open and honest ways. Don't understand why Nastia can't do the same... |

For real

No one is saying that not liking her is senseless. That's your own personal feelings about her. Trying to veil your dislike for her as a reason for not wanting her on the team by saying, "[her] time was four years ago" or " [she] already had [her] chance" is not a very cogent case. On what basis was her only time four years ago? Sure, she already had a chance but now she has another chance, no? If you don't like someone, then you don't like someone and no one can argue with that. But to try to disguise you not wanting them on the team because of your dislike of them is a baseless reason that is senseless. |

how is the opinion that we don't want Nastia on the team senseless? She's a famewhore. That's not senseless. My opinion makes a lot of sense & other people agree. off. If she makes it on the team she's on the team, I'm still allowed to say that I don't want it to happen, & that isn't senseless. |

nah I would love to see Alicia & Chellsie, & maybe even Shawn make it. Chellsie's had really bad luck & has managed to stay one of the best all-arounders when she is competing the AA. Alicia has been the team leader for so long. These girls were both around since the 04 quad & I think it's great they've more or less been working since then (with a bit of a break but still)- it'd be a great way to go out. Shawn I think had her glory in 08 but obviously didn't finish how she hoped & it'd be great to see her come back from the knee injury & make it- I don't think anyone expected her to go beyond 08. |

Ridiculous comments

These comments about "making room" are just ABSURD. If Nastia can get herself back to a point where she actually can outscore most of the top girls who are currenty viying for spots, then she SHOULD represent the US, plain and simple. |

Actually I agree, and it seems a little arrogant to think she can wait until spring of the Olympic year to get back into major competition and presume that will be enough. Maybe it's just more of a personal challenge that she felt she had to set herself, rather than actually imagining she will definitely be on the team. |

I'm kind of sick of her. I feel like she's one of the ones whose time was four years ago. I think I've been annoyed ever since her attention whored & announced her comeback right when the US won worlds...I would so much rather see so many other people have their hard work pay off this year. I think she should either be a current athlete or retired & promoting her meet, but not both. |
