In this Olympic gymnastics flashback video with 1996 Olympic Champion Kerri Strug, she takes us back to one of the most famous moments in Olympic history - her heroic vault in the final rotation of the women's team competition in Atlanta. Strug was shocked to see Dominique Moceanu fall on her second vault just moments before she was called to vault. Strug takes us through this experience and what was going through her mind during one of the most memorable moments in the Olympic Games. Though Kerri's vault wasn't needed to win the Olympic Gold for the USA, it was certainly a dramatic way to end the competition.

And yet Melissa so many girls would give anything just to be on the Olympic team even if it meant injury. Can't feel sorry for Kerri Strug. She got so many opportunities because of being on that team and that vault. Hope she sees the glass half full and not half empty. |

Hm, something I had never thought of that she talks about - I never really thought about how you dream about standing on the medal podium smiling as the national anthem plays, and she never really got that even though she was considered the big hero. Instead she was standing up there crying and obviously in pain. I've always been sympathetic that she didn't make the AA, but now I also feel bad for her that her Olympic dream really wasn't much of a dream. |

Interesting to hear Dominique Moceanu's recent radio interview about her book, where she talks about how annoying it was for the team when Bela INSISTED on carrying Kerri up to the podium for the medal ceremony. I find his overbearing, soundbite personality very strange and unnerving. Betty Okino says some 'interesting' things about his training methods on her website too. |
