Team USA gymnast John Orozco opens up about his first Olympic Games. Orozco grew up in the Bronx and showed talent at a young age. After coming back form an achilles tear in 2010, Orozco fought his way back and ultimately had a breakout season in 2011. This year, he won his first U.S. Senior National all around title en route to being named to his first Olympic team.. Orozco had an up and down showing in London and got to represent the USA in the all around finals. Orozco talks about the lessons learned in London, why he's so hard on himself, and his favorite moment off the gymnastics floor.

I would just love to see him in another 4 years. I think his skills were there, but mentally he was lacking. I think if he maintained and/or upgraded his skills and really honed in on his mentality during competition he could have a chance. I wish him the best :)

He may not have peaked yet, but neither has many other juniors that will be solid seniors in 2016. Horton is a legend in the sport because he is team captain material. Horton didn't make this Olympics team solely on his gymnastics alone. Orozco is not the same Orozco of years past in my opinion. Since his Achilles injury, he hasn't been able to land much in the way of backwards landings, and he admittedly is not very good at front tumbling compared to what he once was pre-injury. Plus, would USAG risk another unforeseen meltdown? He's a nice enough guy, but I just don't see it happening for him. Sorry.

he's so young, he hasn't peaked yet, he could make it like Horton did this year. I wish him all the best

It's going to be really hard for him to make another Olympic 5 man team in 4 years. There are lots of strong juniors coming down the pike. Good luck, but it's going to be an uphill climb. Maybe with lots of upgrades, or maybe as an alternate next time. and even that's a big maybe. I had such high hopes for him, but enjoy your newfound fame while you still can. Gymnastics is a fickle sport, and there is always someone younger, stronger, cleaner and hungrier coming down the pike.
