Maroney's VT in TF wasn't perfect. Was it amazing? obviously! Was it by far the best vault in the olympics? Of course. Was it one of the best vaults ever? Yes. Was it perfect? No. She has a small leg sep in her block, an other tiny form error in the air, her knees are a liiiiitle bit soft and her landing IMO was just a little cheated.

@Susie: Well it is kinda of complicated trying to explain what a good score is now... 15.5 is a TOP score on beam or floor... not so much on bars (girls are getting 16's on Finals) and vault is just messy... the gap between the top vaulter and the 8th gymnast is over 2 points sometimes. There's no way we would see a girl get a 10 and the other one getting an 8 in the same olympic final. I also dislike the 3 up 3 count rule on TF... I think it's too harsh on these young girls knowing that one little fall can take the medal from your country and they're gonna have to live with that for the rest of their lives.

I like the new scoring system because in the old one they were handing out 10s like they were candy. People were getting 10s for routines that were far from perfect so it devalued the whole scoring system and idea of perfection. However, it is shameful that they don't now give perfect execution scores when something clearly IS perfect (i.e. Maroney's vault in team finals).

Nadia achieved so much and was a beautiful woman; of course everyone is free to do what they like, but I think it's a shame she felt the need to have so much cosmetic surgery.

I really don't understand why people think the scoring system is so difficult to understand. I started watching gymnastics in 2008 and it made sense to me from the start. You have a number for difficulty, and you have a number for execution and you add them together...it's not that hard. It might not make sense at first before someone explains it, but usually the commentators explain it at least once a meet on the TV broadcasts.

Naturally the "perfect 10" system is easier to understand, but I think that having the difficulty and execution scores is good for the advancement of the sport. I do, however, agree with the argument that it encourages gymnasts to chuck skills that they aren't fully capable of doing in order to get a higher difficulty score. In general though, I like the new scoring system.
