I see teams from other countries doing the same thing. I've seen them do it at their own gyms too. They all seem to do it. I think it's just about body language and exuding what you want to be. If you hold your head up it emotes confidence and if you slouch you might look tired or lazy. The ranch work outs are all kind of like competitions/performances anyways and that's how you would stand before a competition or before the judges at competition.

@Anonymous. I was thinking the same thing. Why do they have to puff their chests out and hold their arms like sticks? I don't think it's just a Martha thing. Kids all over the countries at all levels of gymnastics are taught to stand like this.
