Nope You are Wrong 11 months ago

You can ONLY replace a top 5 gymnast up until the first day of competition -- if someone gets hurt you CANNOT put in an alternate after the competition has begun - you are stuck with your top 5 only. So, if one of your pommel horse guys go down the second they begin the team prelim - No alternate can come in -- Sasha replaced Hamm after podium training - not the real competition -- 4th pommel horse guy is still an insurance policy - maybe not necessary - but you cannot pull up an alternate to go on the top 3 that has not already competed. If So, everyone would save fresh guys!

I agree with the whole 4th pommel guy being useless. If someone gets hurt, they will pull them out and put in an alternate. So if you want a "4th pommel guy" name him to the team as an atlernate. I'd say as of VISAs, Orozco, Leyva, and Mikulak are locks. And Horton is most likely a lock because of his experience.

I totally agree the 5th guy is between Brooks and Dalton but to me it is a no brainer it has to be Brooks. Brooks is more inconsistent but if you are going for GOLD you have to have the guy in the mix - IF he hits to his potential that you can win. Brooks can make mistakes and still bring in the same scores as Dalton. You say the 4th pommel does not matter - well, IDK - with only 5 guys and the 3 up - there is no room for a catastrophe. I agree if something happens and Danell or Orozco or Sam cannot to pommel - Jon will put up a great fight - but I would like to have Brooks in my back pocket. Dont think it could happen look at history. Blaine Wilson could not do pommel so they used non pommel guy Guard Young, Kupets could not do beam they used Mohini. It is my contention that USA lost the Silver because they used Tan on pommel instead of having someone like Durante in the mix. Dalton should be the first close alternate.

Mikulak is NOT great on rings. He has a 5.6 SV and scores about the same there as Legendre.

It doesn't matter anyway, because neither one of them would probably do this in London. Mikulak might not be doing PH in TF either, because he's not even on the team yet. Naddour could still knock him off. If Mikulak does do it, the USA better hope he doesn't score in the 13s...which he is more than capable of. He can stay on better than most of the US guys, but he's no Berki. People are starting to carry on as if he is, but he's not. He's not great on horse. He just doesn't suck. Those are not the same thing.
I agree that people talking about Legendre being a "4th PH guy" are probably sniffing glue, but one never knows.
Seriously, Sender? He's got a higher D score, but Legendre outscored Sender on PH both days at VISAs...by a lot. Sender hasn't broken 13 on that event since his comeback. If you want a PH guy, David Sender is not that guy. Niether is Brooks. He got one decent score this year...the rest were mostly 12s and 13s.
Qualifications are 5-4-3, anyway. The USA doesn't even need a 5th guy to do horse. If one of the horse guys gets hurt, the USA will bring in an alternate.
Lengedre is NOT out of it, and he doesn't even have to wait for Dalton to bomb (which I doubt is the way he wants things to turn out). All that has to happen is for Legendre to show he can outscore Dalton on FX+VT at trials and for some other guy to render Dalton unecessary on rings. That guy could be Leyva, it could be Brooks, or it could even be CJ Maestas coming way out of left field.
No one knows. So hopefully Legendre can just tune out all the junk and stay in the race.

This is not Steven's year... He was not automatically named to the National team despite placing higher than Sender in the AA... With the emergence of someone like Mikulak who is great on ALL 6 events, that renders him obsolete. I'm sorry, to say that! But the fact remains that it's between him and Jake Dalton... Steven has higher difficulty on FX but jake is cleaner and more consistent, the same goes for VT. Jake Dalton fits the bill as the 3rd Rings guy... All this talk about a 4th PH guy is really silly! If the team is composed of Orozco, Leyva, Horton, Mikulak and Dalton... Horton will be that 4th PH because he'll likely go for the AA... Mikulak, Leyva and Orozco will be the 3 gymnasts doing the PH at Team finals... I cannot see any other scenario where Legendre will be useful! HOwever, if Dalton bombs at Trials, he and Brooks are the best option

4th Pommel Guy 11 months ago

I totally agree Sad Fan - but I am making the case that considering everything - Legendre is not out of it - Many think Dalton has a better shot - but the 4th pommel possible need will keep him ahead of Dalton. i agree I have Brooks as a solid 5th guy and Sender the next in line. Actually on the right day - if he hits all 6 routines - Chris Brooks has a change to knock out any of the other 4 guys and push his way into the AA - would that not be funny. Seriously, he has the goods and previous results. I know you will disagree with that - but, if we are going for Gold I would pick Brooks - if we are shooting for a safe bronze, i would go with Dalton.

"4th Pommel Guy" you realize that both Legendre only has a 5.3 SV on pommel horse. If you are wanting to bring a 4th pommel guy, Sender or Brooks would be better. And both of them can also put up a solid vault score

i think steve seems like a genuine, great guy. i really hope trials go well for him

Sad Fan 11 months ago

"Kila You Are Crazy" we aren't really looking for a pommel guy... The top three guys at VISAs can put up solid scores on pommel horse (Orozco, Leyva, and Mikulak.) Horton is most likely a lot because of his name and his experience. But team USA will still be looking for another solid rings and vault. So I'm not sure if Steve will make it just because recently his vaults have been iffy

Kila You are Crazy 11 months ago

I think you are very wrong - he hurt his chances at Visas but believe me Steve is thick in the mix - He is not a 2 event gymnast and one thing that comes into play is that he could do pommel - but Dalton cannot. No matter they are best friends and you are creepy if he makes you nervous. Steve is no overtly friendly and that does not gain fans, but he is a nice guy.

Kila 11 months ago

He has no shot at making this team if the team is chosen fairly and not just whoever is friendly with the coach.

Dalton is close to Steve on his only two decent events and he sucks at every other apparatus. Dalton at least brings it on other events. Legendre is a two horse gymnast.

Steve is creepy. Everything about him makes me nervous,

HUH?? 11 months ago

This Legendre comment from anon coward makes no sense at all. What are you saying? He has a nice butt? He is a nice clean cut guy.

Legendre and a nice butt ;)

I liked this interview of Steve. I think he showed more personality. If he nails everything at trials he is going to be a major player.
