Aly Raisman -- U.S. Olympic Gymnastics gold medalist, Needham native, and now global icon -- will be back in the spotlight on Comcast SportsNet New England as the subject of the network'ÃÂs exclusive 30-minute documentary feature Aly Raisman: Bringing Home Gold presented by Poland Spring which will debut Monday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m.

Aly, who has risen to worldwide stardom after her extraordinary performance at the 2012 London Olympics, was previously the feature of a 3-part documentary series Aly Raisman: Quest for Gold on Comcast SportsNet New England in early July. The series highlighted her journey through nine months of intense training and culminated with her qualifying announcement at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Bringing Home Gold completes the 2012 Olympic story of this Gymnastics sensation with an exclusive, up-close-and-personal look. The show commences with a recap of Aly'ÃÂs Olympic performance in London which earned her two gold medals and a bronze. With unprecedented access to Aly'ÃÂs life over the past several weeks, the documentary follows the gymnast as she returns to Massachusetts from LondonÃÂ having left Needham as a local star and returning as an international superstar. Comcast SportsNet captures Aly as she greets her hometown, travels through the media circuit, shakes hands with other celebs, and other happenings as she is thrust into her new life as a star. Bringing Home Gold is centered around an exclusive one-on-one sit-down interview with Aly in which she talks about her Olympic and post-Olympic experiences.

Seeing as both Khorkina and Sandra Izbasa, who is 5'6, both not only made multiple trips to the Olympics but also won consecutive gold medals, I'd say it's OK to be a tall gymnast!

She is a beautiful gymnast. Who cares how tall she is. Everyone makes such a huge deal over height. I would love to see a 5'7" or taller girl in the Olympics. It would be an inspiration to all girls who aren't 4'11". It is all about skill and technique not your height, which you have no control over.

Someone mentioned her Dad is 6'5" and a former football/mostly baseball player in Hawaii. Her mother looks about normal female height, maybe 5'6"+ (?).

I wouldn't be surprise if Kyla sprout within that range in a few years. She can break the record for the tallest female gymnast, no?

Kyla grow 5'6" to 5'9"? Wow. Has there ever been a gymnast that tall? I think Khorkina was only 5'5" and she seemed like a giant who could barely flip a salto.

International judges are [closet] bias. They do give extra brownie points to the person who fits "their" descriptions of an ideal looking gymnast. Marta knows this. Gymnastics, afterall, is subjective.

I agree with you. Would love to see Aly back for 2016, but I don't think her body will allow her to compete in all 4 events against the Youngsters. Also, the U.S. is so deep, it is going to be difficult if you even take some time off from gymnastics. I hope she doesn't lose focus or gain too much weight after the Kellogg's Tour. Remember Shawn Johnson?

Nothing wrong with being a power gymnast. Unfortunately judges favor the less muscular, feminine, long-legged, proportional type gymnast. I think that's what Marta means when she said Kyla has the "international look" [of a gymnast that judges love]. And the reason why Shawn (the better gymnast at the time) lost the AA Gold Medal to Nastia's beautiful lines and ballerina-like movements at Beijing. IMO.

I concur CC. I don't like it when people use phrases like "a gymnast's body." I think USA Gymnastics has worked hard to minimize eating disorders and this kind of talk takes us backwards.

I think she's amazing and I would love to see her attempt to return for the 2016 games. Even though the gymnasts getting picked to be on the team are trending towards younger ages, I think she'll have a good chance as long as she can stay uninjured.

I also hate this "gymnast body" that another commentor referred to. It's plain to see when you look at USA athletes from the past couple Olympics that girls no longer have to be a slight in order to compete at high levels. Shawn Johnson, Jordyn Weiber, Aly Raisman are excellent examples of more muscular girls that are fitting right in with power gymnastics.

If she wants to go to the 2016 Games, she needs to fake an injury to get herself out of the ridiculous Kellogg's Tour. That freak show is going to make her body look worst. Just being honest. Once your body start packin', it's going to be difficult to unload it.

Although her body looks normal, she definitely doesn't have a "gymnast's body" like Ross, Maroney, or Finnegan..
