July 6, 2011

This week's gymnastics workout video features the level 9 and 10 girls at Gold Cup Gymnastics in New Mexico. The team had just finished the 2011 season. Level 10 Tory Wilson had a great showing at JO Nationals, placing 4th all around and qualifying to the Junior Olympic National Team. She decided to graduate high school a year early and closed out her club career with a trip to the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup and placing top 3 at all of her 2011 invitational competitions. She has signed with the University of Utah and will start in the fall. Wilson's level 10 teammate will also begin her NCAA carrer in the fall; Repp will join the Texas Woman's University team. The rest of the gymnasts are training new skills for next season.

Thanks for the WW videos Anne, they are often my favorite features on your site!

This gym really seemed like a good one to me. I liked Ed's statement that he didn't like to overt-train the athletes. I also really liked his use of a spotting belt on bars. Maybe I don't see a lot of belts used on bars because it just works out that way, but I have the idea they could be much more widely used. IMO they are a very effective training tool and a good way for the gymnast to get familiar with a large, scary skill without having it be TOO scary for her to attempt.
Anyway, kudos to the coaches and girls. I know where I'd go if I were in ABQ.
