Komova is a member of the Russian National Team and a 2012 Olympian for her country.

A strong and graceful gymnast with great difficulty, Komova is a favorite to win all-around gold in London. She is the reigning World Champion on uneven bars and also finished second in the all-around to Jordyn Wieber at those Worlds. She was edged out by only .033 after making small errors on floor exercise and balance beam.

Komova will be heavily relied on by her Russian team, and strong performances from her at the Olympics could propel the team to gold. The Russian women last won a major team title at the 2010 World Championships, placing first as a team.

Komova is one of only four gymnasts with an uneven bars difficulty score above 7.0. Her intricate and high-flying routine includes her own signature skill: an inside stalder Shaposhnikova with a 1/2 turn.

A first-year senior in 2011, Komova helped the Russian women to a second-place finish at the World Championships in Tokyo. She also competed in balance beam finals, won the uneven bars and finished second all-around.

She was admired as a junior gymnast for her perfect combination of grace and power, vaulting an Amanar and showing top difficulty to win three gold medals at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore.

Komova's ankle has hampered her since she injured it in 2010, but she aims to again throw the Amanar vault at the 2012 Olympics.
