Komova may have nice lines, but the fact that she is ALWAYS tentative and wobbly is a huge issue. Who cares how "artistic" you are if you shake like a bowlful of jelly during the entire routine? Throughout her career, she has shown very little "fight" on beam; she basically gives up after making an error. That doesn't bode well for her future |

Allison, I agree about the unfortunate juxtaposition between Komova's talent/beautiful form and her lack of mental toughness. If you ever want to show a young gymnast the contrast between staying tight and not, you can play the videos of Komova here and at Worlds -- she visibly lets herself go loose when she is frustrated. It is unusual to see such a talented elite gymnast pop in and out of competition mode like that. And unless she is able to develop her mental edge, it will be her undoing, in spite of her physical talents. |

I meant that as a good thing - they really help to add to her extension and lines, and make her beautiful toe point even more noticeable, (for comparison, similar to Courtney McCool). She is such talented a gymnast, we are rarely blessed to watch someone so beautiful. However; I do not think she had an attitude of a champion, and the girl who will fight for the win is usually the girl that gets the gold. That 20 second pause speaks volumes about her confidence... |

I don't care how hard your dismount is - no WORLD CLASS GYMNAST should have a 20+ second break of dead space in their beam routine at a competition. CHAMPIONS don't give up. I feel that Vika already has. |
