November 2, 2011

This week's gymnastics workout video takes us back to the training halls in Tokyo at the 2011 World Championships. Watch how the defending Olympic Champions prepare for a competition.

This workout was filmed on October 10, the day before the 2011 women's World Team Final. The Chinese team made a few errors and settled for the team bronze medal for the second year in a row. Later in the week, Yao Jinnan won the all around bronze medal, and Sui Lu was crowned 2011 Balance beam World Champion.

Gymnasts in this video: He Kexin, Jiang Yuyuan, Tan Sixin, Yao Jinnan, Huang Qiushuang, and Sui Lu.

Sui Lu is a member of the Chinese National team and a 2012 Olympian for her country. She is also the reigning World Balance Beam Champion from the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo. At those World Championships, Sui Lu also brought home a silver medal on floor exercise and a bronze with the Chinese team.

A top gymnast on both events, Sui Lu looks to be a force in London. With a D-score of 6.6, she has scored close to 16 in the past on balance beam. Her floor exercise is clean and difficult, and she has made three consecutive World Championship event finals on the event. She placed third in 2009, fifth in 2010 and second in 2011.

Sui Lu was dominant at the 2010 Asian Games, winning four gold medals for her performances with the team, all-around, on beam and floor exercise.

Her accomplishments on beam and floor throughout the quadrennium have been many, including several gold medals at World Cup competitions. Her scores will be valuable to the Chinese women's team, who are aiming to defend their gold medal from Beijing.
