Shawn Johnson is a former Olympic and World Champion but was left off the 2011 World Championships team. She made her comeback to the sport this year with the ultimate goal of making the 2012 Olympic team and competed in her first competition in July at the CoverGirl Classic. Johnson talks about how she feels about this team selection. She is the non-traveling alternate for the World Championships in Tokyo and was selected to compete at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico at the end of October.

profanity filter? If so, should be tweaked not to mess with phrase when in words. |

People upset that Shawn did not make the team REALLY need to educate themselves about the intricacies of gymnastics. I'm not kidding. Seriously, there is nothing worse than ignorant uber fans. Research the code of points, learn about D scores, learn about routine composition, learn about piecing a team together for Finals at Worlds. I'm proud of Shawn for even getting to the level of Non-Traveling alternate. She has been limited skill wise by her knee and the time off and I think she has done a phenomenal job. Even though she didn't fit in onto this team, I find her journey inspirational. With that said, I certainly don't believe her huge success 3 years ago should make her an asset on current teams. Every code of points is different and every cirstance is different. If you don't understand our sport, please learn about it! |

elitegymnast- if you're referring to Nastia I'm not sure that she's a . But I did wonder how she could possibly be objective judging her former teammates- especially Shawn. They were friends but they were also a great rivalry and I can't imagine that Nastia would want Shawn to get more even more attention. Hopefully she wasn't lobbying against Shawn behind the scenes. |
