Gator junior Courtney Gladys has a different background than most of her Florida teammates. She's a former junior international elite from Orlando Metro, but developed problems with her elbow around age 14 and decided to leave the sport. She ended up taking 3 years off but came back into the gym her senior year, and eventually landed a spot on a very good SEC team. She talks about the whole process of being out then getting back in shape to compete for the Florida Gators.

Courtney is a member of the University of Florida team. She's a former junior international elite who trained at Orlando Metro under coach Jeff Wood. Courtney was very good at a really young age. She placed second at the 2000 U.S. Challenge (childs level) and first in all-around, vault and uneven bars at the 2000 National Gymnastics Festival. Courtney remained on the elite scene until 2002 when she developed an elbow injury and decided to leave the sport. She was out for 3 years, then came back in 2006 as a senior in high school. She walked on to the University of Florida team in 2006, underwent elbow surgery, and worked extremely hard to get back to where she needed to be. She is now a solid vaulter for the Gators. Courtney competed lead-off on vault in 13 of 14 meets in 2008, scoring a collegiate-best 9.875 versus Georgia, at Auburn and at Alabama.
