As you may well know, the NCAA Championship format for women's NCAA Gymnastics has recently undergone a change; Instead of 6 teams represented in the Finals, there will now be 4. University of Utah Head Coach Greg Marsden was at the forefront of initiating this change. He talks about why he thinks these changes will lead to a more successful championship.

And for women, the "icon on top of a wedding cake" nature of the sport makes it more attractive than more combatitive/competetive sports like basketball (just listen to all the "artistry lovers" and leotard obsessers). However, for men that is a turn off.

I think the diffulty to do this sport in high school or even sandlot is part of what makes it hard to become more nationally acclaimed.

Yeah he is right, especially about the live vs tape delayed. Having a live NCAA National Championships on a good network, with strong hype behind it, could raise awareness of our sport very quickly. Both Men's and Women's should have National attention. If the awareness of gymnastics grows in our country it will increase gym club membership nation-wide, increase the number of competitive athletes, increase competition because of the number of athletes, and it will raise the quality of gymnastics in the US to an even more competitive state.
