CSUF Head Coach Jill Hicks spent about 14 years at Oregon State before coming down to Fullerton. She got to see OSU go through a huge development from not even making Regionals to being a staple at NCAA Nationals. She talks about what she learned from seeing that transition, and how she's applied it to building the program at Cal State Fullerton.
Jill is in her 3rd year as Head Coach of the Cal State Fullerton women's gymnastics program. When Jill came into the program, she spent one year as an assistant coach knowing the program was planning to be dropped. But during that year she recognized her passion for it, spoke to the administration and fought for the program. Because of Jill the program is not only still around but is on the verge of returning to the national spotlight.
Jill is a former elite from SCATS in California. After club, she pursued college gymnastics at Oregon State but a knee injury ended her career. She stayed on the team as a coach for all 4 years. A few years after graduation, Jill returned to Oregon State Gymnastics and served as an assistant coach for 10 years. She is now using her 14 years of first-hand experience in building a program at Oregon State to rebuild the team at Cal State Fullerton.
