Sam Mikulak is a member of the University of Michigan gymnastics team and the USA National Team.
Mikulak made a strong bid for the 2012 Olympics at the Visa Championships, finishing third in the all-around and second on parallel bars. He also had a great NCAA season, becoming the 2012 high bar champion and placing second in the all-around. He has advanced to compete at the 2012 Olympic Trials in San Jose.
In 2011, his freshman season at Michigan, Mikulak was the Big 10 All Around Champion, Big 10 Gymnast of the Year, and the NCAA National All Around Champion. He also earned 4 All American honors in his freshman season (All-Around, Floor, Vault, Parallel Bars).
As a club gymnast he was member of the US Junior National Team from 2007-2010 and trained at SCATS Gymnastics under coach Grigor Chalikyan. In 2010 Mikulak was the all around National Champion at both the JO National Championships the USA Gymnastics Championships in the junior 16-18 division.
Beginning in 2011, Sam has been a member of the Senior National Team. Sam placed 2nd on vault at the 2011 Winter Cup and was chosen to be a member of the silver medal- winning US Team that traveled to compete at the Puerto Rico Cup. At the 2011 NCAA National Championships, he won AA, placed 3th on floor, 4th on parallel bars, 7th on vault and the Michigan Team placed 5th.
At the 2012 Winter Cup, Sam placed 2nd on parallel bars, placed 7th on high bar, and tied for 7th on still rings. After the Winter Cup, Sam was chosen to compete at the Kellogg's Pacific Rim Championships where Team USA won gold, he placed 2nd in the individual AA, on vault, and high bar, and 3rd on pommel horse and parallel bars.
