In exactly 2 weeks from today, Jessica Lopez will begin competition at the 2009 World Championships in London. I thought it appropriate to re-feature the workout as excitement builds for the 2009 World Championships and our chance to see what could become "The Lopez".
Nilson is an assistant coach at the University of Denver and the personal coach to former DU All-American and Venezuelan National Team Member Jessica Lopez.
Nilson is a native of Brazil and has coached at many top gyms in Brazil, including Rio de JaneiroÂs top club, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, where he helped guide 10 gymnasts to the national team and one to the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He left Brazil in 1988 and spent six months in the former Soviet Union, studying technique and strategy with the worldÂs top coaches. When he came to the US, he spent time coaching with Bela Karolyi, and eventually move into collegiate coaching. Before Denver, Nilson spent 9 years at the University of Oklahoma.
