Jordyn Wieber of USA edged Viktoria Komova of Russia for the elusive World All Around title tonight in Tokyo. Wieber had an uncharacteristic error on her bar routine but came back with an excellent performance on beam and a dynamic floor routine.
Jordyn Wieber Wieber joins Kim Zmeskal (1991), Shannon Miller (1993-94), Chellsie Memmel (2005), Shawn Johnson (2007) and Bridget Sloan (2009) as U.S. women who have won the World all-around title.

i love her gymnastics, have since she was like 9, but she seems a little too rehearsed and unnatural in front of the camera. she reminds me of shawn johnson back in 07-08ish versus now how shawn is much more laid back. so hopefully with age shell be able to relax a little and not always try to say the right things, ya know? |

Ok i'll admit that i'm a Komova fan but i do think the judging was fair. I still don't get why everyone thinks Komova is a diva. People keep saying that she is one because she didn't have a big smile on the podium. First off she had just got done crying, which i think is acceptable considering how close the competition was, but she did smile! She just didn't have a big huge smile like Wieber, teeth and all, and Jinnan wasn't smiling like Wieber either. I would also like to point out the people who know hate her because she took her medal off. Everyone their said they were heavy, they had to have weighed over 10 pounds! Maroney didn't even keep hers on because it hurt. Komova was also the one to hug Jordyn not Jordyn hug Komova. The clips you guys saw were played in Jordyn's favor not Komova's. I just hope this winning doesn't get to Jordyn's head because she almost lost to Komova who had waaaaaaay watered down routines. John Geddert has already said that she will not be upgrading much next year. In that case Komova will crush Jordyn at the Olympics even if she falls. And lets not forget Mustafina, Bross, Irodache, and even Maroney(if that girl upgrades a little on beam and bars she could very easily take an all around spot. Unfortunantely for Raismen the usa pool of talent is to deep and if she wanted to be in all around medal contention she would need to clean up her form tremoundously. I also don't know how the judges at the Olympics will like Jordyn's floor choreography. Sure it goes with the music, but its just a little to cheesey and immature. But she does sell it though. I'm putting my votes on Komova, Mustafina, Idorache, and Bross. I know Bross is injured and everyone is like oh her career is over or she needs to quit, but you've got to remember her coach is Valeri and he makes champions! even when they seem broken. |

I don't have the skill to say if the judging was fair or not. But I saw no tension in Wieber as she shook Komova's hand after her routine. She didn't expect to win. She didn't even expect it to be close. |

Good point about the selling of the routine by Jordan as well. I want to be more specific in my post, regarding the triple, i was talking about the Triple turn compare to K's fall out double. I'm actually proud of the judges. And the reason I'm pointing out floor is because I keep seeing these articles and people saying they were surprised at such a low score on floor for her. Well, 6 judges saw it correctly so it wasn't like it was a fluke judging mistake. Jordan was clearly better on vault, beam and floor. To an untrained eye of how to watch, it can be deceptive. |

So happy to see someone else point out all the mishaps in Komova's routine. Silver medals are given to people that think they have it in the bag and don't give it 100%. She almost looked like she didn't even really try on her last pass. Very low landing and beyond that, her body language suggested like she almost didn't even care. It said to me "Oops, oh well. They're gonna give it to me anyway." I hate to say it, but almost like a little brat would. Jordyn did what true champions do: gave 150% all the way until she walked off the podium. Not only was her floor routine worth more, but all of her tumbling passes were high and powerful. She also SOLD HER ROUTINE!! She was engaging! Big, bright eyes and an expressive smile throughout. Draws in viewers...and judges are viewers that score a routine. Komova looked like she'd had too much botox before she went up there. Don't get me wrong, I'm an American that ADORES Komova. She's elegant, graceful, and technically beautiful. Just lacks maturity. These two will improve by 2012. Man, will that be an AMAZING Women's AA final!! Can't wait!! |

For the people that are saying she doesn't deserve it you clearly know nothing about judging. Proof7 is 100% correct in his annalysis of Komova's routine. She clearly did not deserve credit for her double turn and her landing on her double pike was terrible. Jordyn is amazing and she clearly had the best perfermances today. GO JORDYN!!!! |

At first I was leary about this outcome as well. But I went back and looked at Komova's score. She was clearly scored correctly. Stop the video at 1:48:48, her final pass for starters. She is in such a deep squat of the double pike, her left hand, is about 1 inch from touching the floor. She is wayyyyyyyy bent over. Jordan had none of those types of landings, she just stepped out of bounds. Also, Komova bounced uncontrolled out of a simple double tuck, THAT WAS COWBOYED, FELL out of the double turn, JORDAN's triple was nearly perfect....Overall, Komovas was less powerfu. SO NOW, I feel fine about Jordan winning. So, you guys need to go back and review the video of Komova, clearly the correct score. Just at least go back and stop the video at 1:48:48. |

Haha yeah she did handle that really well "I'm not sure of my weight" hm I'd say all elites are, but she was right to answer like she did (I suppose maybe she really doesn't know, but I doubt it!) It was also nice in some parts of this she seemed more relaxed and at ease, sometimes she can seem a little tense and rehearsed in her answers. |

Well, I noticed that the guy who asked the offensive height/weight question had a non-American/non-Western accent. Perhaps the weight of a young woman is not such a sensitive issue in his society (and really - it's the open discussion of the weight of women that is frowned upon - not the weight of men. If he had asked that question of Jon Horton - I doubt there would have been much outrage.). |

Yes it was a bit odd but then again that stuff is supposed to be available to the media for various reasons. Marta was the obnoxious one being the only coordinator not to list those stats. |
