The Professional Gymnastics Challenge will appear on ESPN2 May 20,21 and 22 at 8pm EST!

Chellsie Memmel is a member of the US Women's National Team and was a member of the 2008 Beijing Olympic team that won silver in the team competition. Chellsie has been a staple on the US elite scene for quite some time. She became a two-time world champion in 2003, at age 15. Memmel has long been known for her competitive mettle. In 2003, she was the second alternate for the world team, but ended up competing when injury and illness took out three USA athletes. She was the rock of the team, competing all four events in finals and leading the squad to its first world team gold medal. A freak foot injury kept her off the 2004 Olympic team, but a year later in 2005, Memmel won one of the most coveted medals in gymnastics: the world all-around title. In 2006, she tore her shoulder competing at the World Championships, but came back to earn a berth on the 2008 Olympic team. Chellsie competed in the 2009 Visa Championships where she tied for 8th on the balance beam. Chellsie did not compete in 2010.

During her recent comeback beginning with the 2011 CoverGirl Classic, Chellsie tied for 5th on vault and balance beam, placed 6th on the uneven bars, placed 4th on the floor exercise and placed 2nd in the all around. At the 2011 Visa Championships, Chellsie placed 2nd on balance beam with a combined score of 30.00, placed 6th on floor exercise (27.9) and placed 8th in the all around (109.85). Chellsie was unable to complete her final routine of the competition on the uneven bars because of an injury she suffered in the middle of her routine. Although Chellsie seems to be frequently injured, she is a diligent worker and seems to always come back ready to face her competition. Chellsie has recently been named to the 2011 Pan American Team which will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico.

Chellsie is coached by her father, Andy. Andy was a gymnast at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Memmel's mom Jeanelle competed for Centenary College. The Memmels own M&M Gymnastics in New Berlin, WI, where Memmel trains.
