In this Flash Back Worlds Edition we look back at the 2003 World Championships in Anaheim California. The United States Womens Team overcame two injured athletes, one sick athlete to win the 1st World Team Title In US History. This victory was in part due to the great performances of Chellsie Memmel who stepped in to fill the place one of the injured gymnasts.

Flash Back Trivia- Who was the the athlete who came down with the flu prior to competition? What competition did Chellsie win just prior to coming and competing at the world championships?

Yup 2003 was a really crazy year for the United States team., Annia Hatch tore her ACL, Postell had stomach flu, Kupts tore her Achiles in prelims. Sam Sheehan was originally the team alternate but was injured so that predicated pulling Chellsie Memmel straight from the Pan Am games.

Chellsie wasn't even named the alternate for team. She had a really poor meet at Nationals and finished 11th, barely on the national team. To go from that to two gold medals at Worlds is pretty amazing.

Wasn't it Ashley Postell that came down with the flu, and Chellsie was brought in directly from Pan Ams?

The gymnast who got the flu was Ashley Postell. Chellsie won the Pan-American Games just before competing at worlds, If I remember correctly.
