David is a recent graduate of Stanford University where he competed all 4 years, and a member of the US Senior National Team. Sender currently trains under Justin Spring at the University of Illinois where he serves as a volunteer assistant coach.

David launched his comeback in 2012, with hopes of making the London Olympic team. He competed at the Winter Cup, finishing second on vault and third on rings. At the Visa Championships, David placed 11th in the all-around and fifth on vault, showing a high Yurchenko double pike. Sender made the Senior National Team and advanced to the Olympic Trials.

Sender was on his way to leading the U.S. team in Beijing, having an outstanding year in 2008. At the NCAA Championships, he helped Stanford to a second-place finish. Then, at the Visa Championships, Sender won his first senior all-around title. He placed first on vault and won bronze medals on floor and high bar.

A fluke injury at the Olympic Trials ended his year, and cost him a trip to Beijing. Sender jumped up to tap the high bar, rolling his ankle upon landing in warmups. Sender competed at the 2009 American Cup, finishing second.
