2008 Olympian Alexander "Sasha" Artemev talked to Gymnastike about his journey since that bronze medal winning pommel horse routine in the team competition during the Beijing Olympics. Sasha planned to continue onto the London Olympics, but an back injury from a car accident changed that path.
He began coaching along side his father at their club 5280 in Colorado but may be making a comeback with sites set on Rio. Find out what Sasha's plans are and how coaching his gymnasts will help him on his comeback journey.

Sasha is a member of the US Men's Senior National team and is known for being the best American male on pommel horse. He won bronze on pommel horse at the 2006 Worlds, making him the first American to earn a world championship medal on the apparatus since 1979. Originally an alternate, Alexander 'Sasha' Artemev was named to the 2008 U.S. Olympic team after Morgan Hamm withdrew with an ankle injury. He competed on all six events during the qualification round and advanced to the all-around final, where he finished twelfth. He upped the difficulty to his pommel horse routine for the event final, but fell off and finished seventh.

Sasha is coached by his father, Vladamir, at 5280 Gymnastics in Colorado. Vladimir was a member of the Soviet national team in 1980.
