Kyla is a member of the 2012 gold medal winning Fierce Five Olympic Team! Kyla had strong performances in the qualification competition and team final that allowed the US Women to clench the victory. Kyla and her teammates have been living the celebrity life since their historic win- complete with talk shows, appearances, endorsements, and performing on the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions.
At the 2012 Olympic Trials, Kyla tied for first on uneven bars and third on balance beam. She also finished fifth all around and was named to the London Olympic Team. Kyla filled in what was the 'mystery spot' for many gymnastics fans. Based on the results from London, Kyla proved herself to be the perfect last puzzle piece to the team!
Although she had limited experience at major senior competitions prior to the Olympics, Kyla's clean execution set her apart from other competitors. The uneven bars and balance beam are her best events and her 15.5 beam score from the Jesolo Trophy in 2012 is one of the highest marks in the world on that event.
Kyla has since returned to international competition. In 2013 she placed second at the Jesolo Trophy Meet in Italy behind first year U.S. senior Simone BIles. Kyla took home the Uneven Bars title with a 14.550.
Kyla became a first year senior in 2012, and celebrated the occasion at the Jesolo Trophy by winning golds in the team, all around, bars and beam. At the Pacific Rim Championships in Washington, Kyla finished first with the team and on balance beam, and second in the all around and on uneven bars.
At the 2012 Visa Championships, she she placed fourth in the all around, hitting all eight routines. She ended up in second on uneven bars and fourth on floor exercise.
In 2011, still a junior, Kyla placed 2nd in the AA at the Visa Championships and placed 1st in the AA at the City of Jesolo trophy! She was also a member of the gold medal-winning team and won balance beam.
In 2010, Kyla placed won AA at Visa's for the second time in a row. She was chosen to be a member of the 2010 City of Jesolo team where she placed 2nd AA. In 2010 she was also chosen to be a member of the Pacific Rim Championships where she was a member of the gold medal-winning team. At the 2010 Pan American Championships in Australia, Kyla won gold medals for team and AA and won the silver for floor exercise.
2009 was her very first year as an elite gymnast. She was the 2009 US Classic and 2009 Visa Championships AA Champion!
Kyla has been a member of the US National Team since 2009 and trains at Gym Max in California under coaches Jenny Zhang and Howie Liang.
At the 2010 Pan American Championships, she placed 1st in the AA.
