Alexandra "Aly" Rasiman is a member of the 2012 gold medal winning Fierce Five Olympic team! She also left London as the most decorated US gymnast by winning the team gold, floor gold, and beam bronze. One of the biggest shockers of the Olympics was when Aly qualified to the individual AA final along with teammate Gabby Douglas, but Jordyn Wieber did not. Aly tied for 3rd place in the AA final but did not receive a medal because of the tie breaking policy. Aly and her teammates have been living the celebrity life since their historic win- complete with talk shows, appearances, endorsements, and performing on the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions.
Raisman solidified her position on the London team at the Olympic Trials in San Jose, placing third all-around and winning the balance beam and floor exercise. She won the U.S. National titles on those same two events earlier in the year. Since emerging on to the elite scene in 2009, Aly has been known for her consistency and hard work. Over the past few years, she has also matured into quite the team leader and all around competitor, so it was no surprise when she was named to the Olympic team!
In 2012, Raisman defended her title at the Secret Classic in May, and notched a third place finish in the all-around at the Visa Championships, winning balance beam and floor exercise in the process.
In 2011, Aly was a member of the gold medal winning US Women's World Team which competed in Tokyo, Japan. She also placed 4th in the all around final, 3rd on floor exercise, and 4th on balance beam.
At the 2011 CoverGirl Classic, Aly placed 3rd on balance beam and placed 1st on floor exercise, vault (tie) and the all around. At the 2011 Visa Championships, she placed 6th on balance beam with a combined score of 27.9, and 3rd on floor exercise (29.15) and in the all around (114.6).
Since her breakout year in 2009, Aly has been assigned to many international competitions: the Junior Pan American Championships in 2009, the City of Jesolo Trophy, Tyson American Cup, Pacific Rim Championships and World Championships in 2010 and the City of Jesolo Trophy, and AT&T American Cup in 2011.
She trains under coach Mihai Brestyan who also coached 2008 Olympian, Alicia Sacramone. Aly turned elite in 2009 and easily made the US Junior National Team at her first US Championships.
Aly announced in November 2011 that she is now a professional athlete.
